Air Transat baggage restrictions

When you’re packing your carry-on, there are a few important restrictions to know regarding liquids, sharp objects, and medical equipment.

Keep in mind, the carry-on liquid rules aren’t set by Air Transat. The Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) regulates carry-on liquid policies, so they apply to almost all airlines flying out of Canada.

For the most up-to-date information on carry-on items and restrictions, check out this list of restricted items on flights across Canada.

Carry-on liquids

Liquids and gels in carry-on bags must not exceed 100 ml/100g (3.4 ounces) and must be in marked containers.

Liquids and gels that don’t meet these requirements will be confiscated at security.

General restrictions

Discharge projectiles; sharp objects, most tools, and substances w/ explosive properties are not allowed in your carry-on.

Blades exceeding 6cm aren’t allowed on board.

Medical equipment

Mobility aids, needles and syringes with a needle guard, and labelled medication in its original container are permitted.

Mobility aids must fit within the cabin or your checked baggage.

If you’re unsure about any medical device or special equipment, contact Air Transat before you fly. You can submit requests for additional medical devices at least seven days before travel and include the information on the Accessibility, Special Needs, and Medical Equipment page of their website.

Valid as of March 15, 2026. For the most up-to-date information, visit the restricted items section of Air Transit’s website.

Travelling with cannabis

You cannot travel with cannabis outside of Canada. When travelling within Canada, passengers must comply with Canadian federal and provincial laws. But it's often safer to leave cannabis at home due to unexpected flight diversions.

Travelling with a service dog

If you require the assistance of emotional support or a certified service dog, contact Air Transat at least seven days before your flight. As long as you can provide a Service Dog Transport Request form and proof of training or certification, they can board the flight with you.

Tips for travelling on Air Transat

Sometimes airports have rules that differ from Air Transat’s baggage policy, especially when flying internationally. To save time and stress, check the airport’s guidelines before you go and follow them, along with the airline's rules.

Before you arrive at security, double-check that your water bottle is empty. If you have an open bottle of water or any liquids over 100ml, security will stop you, which can slow you down and delay your travel plans. Empty water bottles are okay to bring, though, and you can refill them once you’re past security.
