What to Expect When Arriving at the Windsor Airport

With its single terminal and five gates, the Windsor International Airport (YQG) is easy to navigate. International arrivals typically use Gate 5. It welcomes flights from various points in Florida, Mexico and the Caribbean. Canada's Custom and Immigration Offices are adjacent to Gate 5. Most domestic flights are from Toronto-Pearson and Calgary. Air carriers include Air Canada Express, Air Transat, Porter Airlines, Sunwing Airlines and WestJet. Most passenger services, including free Wi-Fi, are available in most parts of the terminal.

All passengers funnel into the middle of the terminal after clearing security checkpoints. Rental car desks are adjacent to the domestic baggage claim area. • Caesars Windsor is a draw for Canadians as well as for fans on the US side of the Ambassador Bridge. Gambling age in Ontario is 19, so be sure to carry ID if you're on the younger side of life. • Explore the Odette Sculpture Park along the riverfront near the base of the Ambassador Bridge. Pathways lead past more than 30 whimsical artworks. The more formal Dieppe Gardens is also found along the Windsor Riverfront, as is the Canadian Club Heritage Centre, where you learn the history of Canadian Whisky, the Tallgrass Prairie Heritage Park and the Ojibway Prairie Provincial Nature Reserve. It's all connected by the 25-kilometre Waterfront Trail. Roughly 10-kilometres are shared with Riverside Drive, the rest is a quiet path giving you plenty of space to hike or pedal a bike.
• Visit the Old Walkerville Neighbourhood for a look at some of the vintage Victorians that are lovingly kept up. Some of those buildings played a part in supplying the United States with alcohol during the Prohibition. Take the Rum Runners Tour for an amusing and detailed telling of the story. It's a trip back to the 1920s including music, marauding gangsters and a visit to a speakeasy, which is what the illegal booze halls were called in the USA. The name "speakeasy" came about because you had to whisper about these places in public so you didn't accidentally alert the police.
