Discover Brandon
Brandon is Manitoba's second-largest city and an important commercial centre for both Western Manitoba and Eastern Saskatchewan. Brandon may not be as large or well-known as nearby Winnipeg, but this unpretentious and friendly city has a way of making visitors feel especially welcome. While sites in the city itself are limited, there are a number of festivals during the summer months that make Brandon a worthwhile visit. Thanks to growing service to Brandon Airport, getting to this city is now easier than ever. Skyscanner's monthly search tool can help you find the cheapest flights to Brandon.
Best Time to Book a Flight to Brandon
Manitoba's winters are notoriously harsh, even by Canadian standards. Expect lots of snow, fierce winds, and bitter cold. In other words, unless you have a good reason to be in Brandon during the winter months then you should probably keep your visit to the summer. That's when the weather is pleasant and most of the city's festivals are on. Brandon isn't really a tourist destination so finding a flight or hotel during any time of the year, aside from one of the big agricultural events, shouldn't be a problem.
Airlines that Fly to Brandon Airport
Currently Brandon Airport is served by just one airline, WestJet, which offers direct service to Calgary. Most people flying to and from Brandon tend to use the much larger Winnipeg International Airport. However, Brandon Airport does have big plans for its future and service to the facility will hopefully increase in the coming years. WestJet recently conducted a trial run of flights to Toronto and has said it may make the route a regular service depending on demand.
What to Expect at the Airport
Brandon Airport is tiny and, with so few travellers, there aren't any restaurants or cafes there aside from a vending machine. There is, however, an Enterprise counter where you can rent a car, which may be a good idea since driving tends to be the easiest and most convenient way of getting around Brandon. Your other option is to hire a taxi, with taxi companies being plentiful and generally honest.
What to See and Do in Brandon
Brandon doesn't really have a reputation for being much of a tourist destination and for most Canadians the city tends to evoke images of agriculture and endless fields of wheat. That being said, this is a friendly city with all of the amenities one would expect from a fair-sized city. There are a number of festivals you can take part in during the summer months, including the Folk Music and Art Festival, Ag Days (Canada's largest indoor agricultural festival), the Royal Manitoba Winter Fair, and the Brandon Jazz Festival, which features over 3,000 performers. There are also a number of golf courses and country clubs in the city where you can practice your swing. Accommodation in Brandon is affordable and plentiful and Skyscanner's hotel search feature can help you find a great room.
