Best Time to Book Flights to Tashkent Airport

Tashkent is part of the desert region of Uzbekistan which can easily top 40 degrees Celsius during the summer months. The best time to visit is in the spring, during April or May or in the fall, from September until the early part of November. Winter temps sometimes get down to minus 2 degrees Celsius. What to Expect When Arriving at the Airport

Tashkent Airport has two terminals. Terminal 2 welcomes international fights and Terminal 3 is for domestic carriers. There currently is no Terminal 1. More than two million passengers pass through Terminal 2 each year. It takes about two hours for international passengers to clear customs and immigration. Domestic passengers get through the formalities much faster. The two terminals are separated by the runway and there is no free shuttle. When it's time to leave Tashkent, make sure you arrive back at the right terminal.

Downtown Tashkent is about six kilometres from the airport. Taxi rides average about $6.00 CAD, while the city bus charges roughly $1.00 CAD. Rental cars are available but driving can be challenging due to somewhat chaotic traffic patterns and the language barrier. You may also need an International Driver's License depending on the language your regular license is printed in. A rental car with a driver is an option and something to consider if you're doing lots of sightseeing on the outskirts of town. Prices per day for your car and driver usually run between $30.00 CAD and $50.00 CAD but may be negotiated. Accepted currency in Tashkent is the Uzbekistan Som.

What to See and Do in Tashkent

Tashkent, Uzbekistan, has plenty to keep the history and museum lover happy. The History Museum of the People of Uzbekistan has Buddhist relics dating back to the 1st through 4th centuries as well as artefacts from early Russian involvement. Visit the Fine Arts Museum of Uzbekistan and you'll find even more Buddhist and Russian pieces, as well as Asian art from the 19th century. Love to shop? Head for the Chorsu Bazaar, the city's famed farmers market found under the distinctive green dome. Step through the doors and you'll catch the scents of spices, piled high in colourful mounds. Find ripe melons, pomegranates, huge tomatoes and other seasonal fruits. Home-made "chapan," a traditional cloak and "kurpachas," boldly coloured sitting mattresses, are also available. The bazaar is also a great place to sample some traditional foods.
