Cheap flights to Saint Maarten Airport

Saint Martin is a beautiful Caribbean island famous for its pristine beaches and for being divided between Dutch and French sides. Princess Juliana International Airport (SXM) is located on the Dutch (Sint Maarten) side and serves as the main airport for the entire island. If you're looking for a mix of European charm and Caribbean relaxation, then Saint Martin has plenty to offer. Skyscanner's monthly search feature will help you find the cheapest flights to Saint Martin.

Best time to book a flight to Saint Martin

Winter is the most popular time to visit Saint Martin, but that also means airfare and hotel rooms are at their most expensive at this time of year. Cheap flights can be found during the summer and fall seasons, but beware that this is also hurricane season, so your flight could get cancelled at the last minute. The shoulder seasons (April to June and November to mid-December) tend to offer the best mix of low prices and great weather. What to expect when arriving at the airport

The easiest way to get from the airport to your hotel will likely be by taxi. Be aware that taxis are unmetered, so it's a good idea to negotiate a price before leaving. Fares also vary a bit depending on whether the taxi is based on the French or the Dutch side of the island. To get from the airport to Philipsburg should cost about $15 and to get to Grand Case about $25. Fares increase if you're arriving late at night, have more than two passengers, or are carrying extra luggage. Renting a car is also a very popular and more cost effective way of seeing the island. There are dozens of car rental agencies at the arrival hall of the airport.

Airport Facilities

Princess Juliana International Airport consists of just one terminal, making it extremely easy to navigate. There are a few shops in the departures lounge after security, most selling duty-free items, such as perfume, alcohol, and tobacco, as well as souvenirs. Restaurants are also available, but they are mostly fast food, cafes, or sandwich places, although there is also a bar. There are two ATMs, one in the departures hall and the other in arrivals. A currency exchange is also in the arrivals hall where you can get Antilles Guilder (the currency used on the Dutch side), but Euros and U.S. dollars are widely accepted on both sides of the island. There is free wifi available throughout the airport. The airport is also world famous for how low incoming and departing aircraft fly over the adjacent Maho Beach. If visiting Maho Beach beware, however, that blowback from the aircraft can be dangerous and even deadly.

What to see and do in Saint Martin

Beaches are the main attraction in Saint Martin and with 37 of them the island doesn't disappoint. Scuba diving, windsurfing, and boat charters are also popular. Given that the island is divided between French and Dutch sides, it should come as no surprise that the food here is particularly good. Philipsburg, the capital of the Dutch side, is also known as one of the best shopping destinations in the Caribbean. Skyscanner can help you find the perfect hotel room to make your stay on Saint Martin unforgettable.
