Discover Dominica

Dominica doesn't have the luxury resorts, endless stretches of beaches, or the premier shopping and nightlife that seem to define so many Caribbean vacations--and that's exactly what makes this tiny island-country so appealing. Thanks to the fact that its two airports are unable to handle large aircraft, Dominica has remained an undiscovered paradise in one of the most touristed regions in the world. Much of the island's natural beauty has been protected, making this an ideal location for nature lovers. You can sign up for Price Alerts to find the cheapest flights to Dominica.

Best Time to Book a Flight to Dominica

Temperatures in Dominica are warm and sultry all year round and the only season that should probably be avoided is July to September, when hurricanes are a possibility and the weather tends to be a bit rainier. Thankfully, Dominica has yet to become a tourist hotspot, so finding an affordable hotel or flight is not a challenge even during the dry season. With Skyscanner's Whole Month search you can unlock the cheapest time of the year to fly to Dominica.

Airlines that Fly to Dominica

Dominica has two airports, Canefield Airport and the larger Douglas-Arthur Airport. However, neither airport can handle large aircraft, meaning that most flights to Dominica are short-range and originate from other Caribbean destinations. Some of the most convenient airports for connecting to Dominica are San Juan, Sint Maarten, Fort-de-France, Antigua, Martinique, and Saint Lucia.  Airlines that fly to either Canefield or Douglas-Arthur include:

  • Air Antilles Express
  • Air Sunshine
  • LIAT
  • Winair
  • Coastal Air
  • Island Birds
  • Air Antilles

What to Expect at the Airport

Regardless of which airport you fly into, you will likely want to rent a carfor the duration of your stay. While Dominica is tiny, its winding, mountainous roads make distances between towns fairly long. There are buses as well, but they tend not to abide by any set schedule. If, for whatever reason, you choose not to rent a car you can also use taxis. Just make sure you negotiate a price for any trip with the driver before you get in the vehicle.

What to See and Do in Dominica

Dominica has some of the most spectacular and least visited natural scenery in the Caribbean. Morne Trois Pitons National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and features the Boiling Lake, perhaps Dominica's most famous attraction, and the stunning Ti Tou Gorge. Trafalgar Falls are another jaw-dropping site framed by lush, verdant jungle. While Dominica is not known for its beaches, Batibou Beach is an exception and its palm-fringed white sand and dramatic cliffs are postcard perfect. Popular activities on the island include scuba diving, hiking, ziplining, whale/dolphin watching, and kayaking. With Skyscanner's hotel search tool you can find a great room to stay in after a day packed with sightseeing.
