Chambéry Airport (CMF) is a small international airport offering seasonal flights between the Chambéry commune in Savoie, France, and several cities throughout Europe, the Middle East, and Russia. Flights begin in early December and run until Mid-April.

The best time to fly to Chambéry is during the beautiful winter season, when the ski hills and chaléts open for business. The town is beautiful in the summer as well, but many major attractions will be closed to tourists during that time, and the airport does not offer flights in the summer so you'd have to drive from Paris, Lyons, or Nice. To find the best flights from Canada to Chambéry, try comparing flights using Skyscanner's search tool above, or download our new mobile app to coordinate travel plans with your friends and family!

Getting to Chambéry Airport

CMF is a small international airport that only offers flights from December to April. British Airways, Scandinavian Airlines, Transavia, and I-Fly are just some of the airlines offering flights to Chambéry airport. With so many options, it's easy to find a cheap winter flight to Chambéry!

There are no direct flights from Canada to Chambéry. To get there, you'll have to route through a major European city like London (STN), Amsterdam (AMS), or Stockholm (ARN). Most flights out of Canada will depart from either Montreal (YUL) or Toronto (YYZ).

As a Canadian, you can visit France for up to 90 days without requiring a visa. France is part of the Schengen area, so you can also travel freely between all Schengen countries during your 90-day stay without having to pass through border controls! Make sure your passport is valid for at least 3 months longer than you plan on staying in Europe to avoid any issues at the airport.

Chambéry Airport Facilities

Despite its small size, CMF has many great amenities! After landing, you'll find the baggage claim area on the right when entering the terminal. Free wi-fi is available to all passengers, and there are a number of stations where you can charge your devices. On the upper floor you'll find a restaurant and bar which offers a great view of the runway and surrounding mountains. On the main level, there is a shop near the information desk that sells regional products, as well as a duty-free shop in the departures lounge. There are even arcade games available to play near the flybe check-in desk!

What to Do in Chambéry

Chambéry is nestled between two major Alpine valleys, making it the perfect place for a ski getaway in the French Alps. It is a historic city that has been both Italian and French, and even the capital of its own sovereign state! With so much cultural history, it should come as no surprise that the city's art, architecture, and food are made of a unique blend of Italian and French influences. You're never far from a cafe, ice cream shop, or creperie.

The city's old town is a charming blend of vaulted passageways leading to secret courtyards and winding alleys. Despite its small size, you could walk around there for hours and still not feel like you've seen it all. Dominating over the old town is the Chateau des Ducs de Savoie, where the Lords of Chambéry and the Dukes of Savoy reigned for hundreds of years.

You won't want to miss the surrounding area, either. Chambéry is the perfect home base for exploring the beautiful nature of the French Alps. Within minutes, you can drive to Chartreuse or Bauges natural parks (some of the most beautiful peaks in the world!), as well as the beautiful Lac du Bourget.
