Getting to Tagbilaran Airport
Tagbilaran Airport (TAG) is a small regional airport serving the Bohol province of the Philippines. It offers a few domestic routes through carriers like Philippine Airlines and Philippines AirAsia.
There are no direct flights from Canada to Tagbilaran Airport. Instead, you'll have to route through Manila instead.
Canadians do not require a visa to visit the Philippines for up to 30 days. However, you'll still need to have a passport that is valid for at least 6 months past your expected date of departure, and proof of a return ticket. Be sure to check with the Government of Canada website for travel advisories and vaccination requirements.
The Best Time To Visit Tagbilaran
It's best to visit Tagbilaran during the dry season (November to March) if you want to enjoy the beach. The weather will be a bit cooler, but you won't have to worry about being rained out. It is the peak season for tourists, however, so you may have to deal with elevated flight and hotel prices as well as crowds on the beach. If you travel between June and October, you'll be able to find better deals and won't have to worry about booking transportation or tours ahead of time - but you should expect to see at least 1 or 2 rainy days.
What to Do in Tagbilaran
Tagbilaran is a city surrounded by serene natural landscapes and historical sites, making it an excellent starting point for an adventure through the islands of the Philippines. Adventure tours are offered for a huge variety of activities from snorkeling to caving. Here are a few ideas for inspiration:
- Head to the Tarsiers Sanctuary to learn about the species and spend some time with some of the world's smallest (and cutest) primates.
- Check out the Chocolate Hills, which get their name from the charcoal grey color they take on during the dry season. They make for an extremely unique landscape and a great spot for sightseeing!
- Lahos Lahos cave near the Botanical Gardens is famous for its upside-down cathedral, and is definitely worth checking out. It even has a stream which feeds a bathing pool deep inside the cave!
