Departing from Phoenix Mesa Gateway Airport

Phoenix's Mesa Gateway Airport (AZA) is a small airport located about 30km southeast of Phoenix. Due to its small size, there are only a few options for shopping and dining, including a casual sit-down restaurant called Copper Plate, a bakery, a magazine shop, and a gift shop. Free wi-fi is available, but there are no charging stations for your devices, so be sure to charge them before you head to the airport!

Long-term parking is available in a couple of places near the airport:

• Daily Lot: Located just south of the terminal, this parking lot costs $13.75 per day.
• Economy Lot: Located on Ray Road east of Sossamon Road, this parking lot costs $8.75 per day and offers shuttle services directly to the airport starting about 2 hours before flight departures. Plan on taking at least 15 minutes to reach the airport after parking.

Arriving at Vancouver International Airport

Vancouver International Airport (YVR) is a very busy airport, so be sure to have your declaration card filled out correctly to avoid delays. To get to your hotel, you'll want to pick up a taxi just outside the terminal ($35 to downtown Vancouver) or follow the signs to the Canada Line for a train that can take you to the city center in about 30 minutes. From there, you can transfer to any of Vancouver's train lines to reach your hotel.

You can also pick up a rental car through Avis, National, Alamo, Hertz, zipcar, Dollar Thrify, or Budget car rentals. Each of those companies has a desk at the airport, but you can book a car ahead of time using Skyscanner's car rental search tools!

Practical Information

Plan on arriving at the airport at least 2 hours before your departure to give yourself enough time to move through security, grab a bite to eat at the bakery, and find your gate. After landing in Canada, make sure your declaration card is filled out correctly and follow the signs to reach the Canadian citizens/permanent residents line at Canadian customs. This is a long-haul flight, so we recommend wearing comfortable clothing and bringing some reading material along for the flight.
