Discover Tenerife South

Tenerife is the largest of the Canary Islands and is a major tourist destination, especially for sun seekers from Europe. Its beachside resorts are the main reason most people come to the Canary Islands, and while those beaches are spectacular, there is also a lot about Tenerife and the Canary Islands as a whole that goes unappreciated by many visitors. From incredible cultural offerings to spectacular volcanic mountains, the Canary Islands are a superb destination that are guaranteed to impress even the most cynical of travellers. With Skyscanner's Whole Month search feature you can find who is offering the cheapest flights to Tenerife.

Best Time to Book a Flight to Tenerife

There's not really any bad time to visit the Canary Islands. Even during the coolest months of the year temperatures are still pleasant. Summer can be a bit crowded with so many holidaymakers from the Spanish mainland, but that is no reason to avoid these beautiful islands (although you will need to book in advance). May to June and September to November typically offer the best chances of finding a cheap flight and hotel room since these are outside of the main high seasons.

What to Expect at the Airport

Firstly, it is important to understand that there are two international airports on the island of Tenerife: Tenerife North and Tenerife South. Tenerife South is the busier one, but European flights arrive at both so make sure you are clear about which one you are flying into. When you exit the arrivals hall you will find bus and taxi stands, both of which can take you to most points on the island.  However, the easiest way to get around is with your own vehicle, especially if you want to explore the rural areas, so you should consider renting a car at the airport.

What to See and Do in Tenerife

Tenerife has some spectacular mountain roads, which can be both beautifully scenic or hair raising depending on your tolerance for heights and sudden turns. The island is also home to El Teide, Europe's highest mountain and one of the Canary Islands most spectacular sights. Tenerife also has some excellent scuba diving spots as well as fantastic surfing, especially on the south side of the island. Hiking and mountain biking are also extremely popular activities. Tenerife is a major tourist destination and rooms do go quickly, so be sure to find your hotel well in advance with the help of Skyscanner's search feature.
