p>A major city with a global reach, Shanghai is big enough and busy enough to have two airports. Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG), named after the nearby coastline known as PuDong, handles most of the region’s international traffic. This airport is growing at a faster rate than others and is home to more than 100 airlines traveling to and from two hundred destinations. Some parts of the extensive airport are always ongoing renovation or construction to account for the ever-increasing passenger and cargo loads. Currently, the airport is divided into three main sections that are all under one roof. Services like banking, phone charging, and vending machines are located throughout the airport.- Terminal One has a distinctive shape, like a seagull, and is equipped with both jetways and remote gates. This is the older of the two terminals, and has been in operation since 1999.
- Terminal Two is designed to resemble a wave and is a similar shape but has a much greater capacity. You can find the Star Alliance airlines in this terminal, which includes national flagship carrier Air China.
- Satellite Concourses to handle the projected increase in passengers are are currently still being built. Future plans include two sections and automated walkways to move passengers between terminals.
Airlines that fly to Shanghai PuDong Airport
There are many airlines that can take you to Shanghai along with several connecting flights in other major cities and nearby countries. You can also fly directly from Canada and there are quite a few different carriers and routes you can take. Some of these flights arrive in Beijing Capital Airport and then transfer to a domestic carrier.
- Westjet teams up with another major airline from across the Pacific, Delta for flights from Canadian destinations to PVG. These require at least one stop in either Seattle, Los Angeles, or Tokyo.
- China Eastern uses this airport as a hub and covers the most routes as far as both national and international destinations are concerned. They cover short commuter flights, long haul trips, everything in between. Included are routes that fly directly from Vancouver and Toronto
- Korean Air is an international alternative if you don’t mind making a stop in Seoul or perhaps a second one in Seattle. Incheon Airport in Seoul is also a big, busy airport that can connect you with flights heading further east.
Ground Transportation
You would expect a world-class transport hub to accommodate any and all of your taxi, shuttle, or public transport needs. PVG doesn’t disappoint, offering several different choices when it’s time to find your hotel.
