Air conditioning and free Wi-Fi help to keep passengers as cool and comfortable as possible, but amenities, shopping, and dining options are minimal.

An $82.9-million expansion project expected to be completed in early 2017 promises to improve the interior for passenger comfort; add a terminal building, cargo terminal, and air navigation system; and extend the runway. Passengers can expect connecting flights into PPS through Philippine Airlines, Air Juan, AirAsia, or Cebu Pacific. Hotels are within walking distance right across the street from the arrival area.

Things to Do in Palawan

As the capital city of Palawan, Puerto Princesa is beautiful to behold with its world renown Puerto Princesa Underground River. The Palawan Butterfly Eco Garden & Tribal Village and Palawan Wildlife Rescue & Conservation Center allow visitors to meet and greet local wildlife in their natural habitat. Island hop across white sand beaches through Honda Bay, play with long-snout dolphins, enjoy zip lining and the horses at Mitra Ranch, and brave the extreme excitement of Ugong Rock Adventures. Palawan's restaurant game is strong, featuring locally caught seafood.

Diving and marine adventures can be found within a half-hour to half-day drive from PPS, depending on the mode of transportation chosen. Motorbike rentals average PHP 700 ($18.63 CAD) per person for the day, or round trip air-conditioned van tours averaging PHP 1400 ($37.50 CAD) per person for the day are the most effective and fun ways to explore Palawan. Serious divers must check out Coron Bay in North Palawan and Tubbataha Reefs which contain some of the most beautiful coral reefs on the planet. And the country's largest wildlife preserve, El Nido, is just 238 km north of Puerto Princesa.

There are two seasons in Palawan: the wet season and the dry season. March through May is best for seafarers. June through October is hot, muggy monsoon season. And November through February is the cooler and drier tourist season.
