Moscow has four international airports: Sheremetyevo, Vnukovo, Domodedovo and the brand-new Zhukovsky. Although Sheremetyevo is the largest of the four, Domodedova serves slightly more passengers each year.  Sheremetyevo, Vnukovo and Domodedovo are all connected to Moscow's center with a dedicated AeroExpress rail link, while Zhukovsky uses a shuttle bus to connect passengers to the local express train service.  It is also possible to reach the city from any of these airports by bus, car sharing app, taxi or rental car

Although there are no direct flights from Canada to Moscow, several different airlines fly from Canada to the Russian capital with only one connection.  Consider flying through Frankfurt with Lufthansa, through Paris with Air France, or through Amsterdam with KLM.

What to See and Do in Moscow

When choosing your hotel in Moscow, look for one that is situated close to one of the city's historic metro stations.  Some of the most popular hotels are clustered around the Kremlin, Arbat Street and Pushkin Square.  Once you've dropped off your bags and freshened up, every trip to Moscow should begin with a visit to the iconic Red Square.  Walk through the Resurrection Gate to find the colorful St. Basil's Cathedral, Lenin's Mausoleum and the luxurious GUM department store. Next door is the Kremlin, which is still the active center of Russia's government, and the historic Kitay Gorod neighborhood is nearby as well.

Other can't-be-missed Moscow experiences include a cruise along the Moskva river, a stroll through the modernized Red October chocolate factory (which has been converted into a hip shopping and entertainment district) and a visit to a traditional Russian banya.  When you're dining out, look for typical Russian dishes like borsht, blini and beef stroganoff.
