Best Time to Book a Flight To Phuket

There are advantages to visiting Phuket at any time of year.  Most travelers like to visit between November and February.  Considered the high season, these months offer visitors warm weather with little rain.  Although prices tend to rise during this time, it is still possible to find cheap airfares to Phuket in the winter.  From March to October, the climate in Phuket is more variable, and it is common to experience an afternoon or evening storm during this low season.  The advantage of visiting Phuket during the low season is the availability of cheap airfare and lower prices for accommodation, dining and attractions.

Airlines That Fly to Phuket Airport

Although there are no direct flights from Canada to Phuket Airport, it is easy for Canadian travelers to connect to Phuket through Shanghai, Hong Kong or Bangkok.  Many major international airlines and their alliances fly to Phuket, including Cathay Pacific, China Eastern and even Air Canada.

What to Expect When Arriving at the Airport

Phuket Airport has two terminals: one for domestic flights and one for international flights.  The two terminals are close together and connected via a comfortable air-conditioned walkway.  The airport is served by local buses that run between the airport and Phuket Town's bus station from 7:00 am until 8:30 pm.  The bus journey takes between one and two hours.  For faster travel to and from the airport, choose an official metered taxi (the reputable taxi stand is located outside of the airport at the end of the pedestrian walkway).  You can trust the official metered taxis to charge you a fair price, but remember that you will need to pay a 100 baht airport surcharge on top of what their meter shows.

Airport Facilities

As one of Thailand's most important airports, the Phuket Airport has all of the services that travelers would expect.  There are four currency exchange offices, several ATMs, and an information desk that can point you towards the airports other services (including a pharmacy, Value-Added Tax refund services, shops and restaurants).  The on-site car rental centre is open twenty-four hours a day.

What to See and Do in Phuket

The island of Phuket is forty-eight kilometres long and twenty-one kilometres across, and is divided into several distinct beachfront resort communities.  Most travelers book their hotel in Patong, which is home to the island's best nightlife and entertainment, although more and more budget travelers are opting for a more quiet stay in Phuket Town.  No matter where you make your base, you'll want to ensure your itinerary includes time spent relaxing on one of Phuket's white sand beaches, a traditional Thai massage, and as many meals as possible from Thailand's famous street food vendors.
