Best Time to Book a Flight to Belfast
Belfast is a rainy city with mostly mild weather all year. Tourists generally choose to visit in the summer when the days are long and average daytime temperatures are warm and pleasant. However, the fall months bring many popular festivals to the city, like the Deep RiverRock Half Marathon in September and the Belfast International Arts Festival in October.
Belfast Airport and Airline Options
Belfast is home to two busy international airports. Belfast International Airport (BFS), located about 21 km from the city, serves over five million passengers per year. Over ten airlines operate out of BFS, with EasyJet and Jet2 offering the most flight destinations. You cannot currently fly direct from Canada to Belfast International Airport but you can connect in major European cities like London and Paris.
George Best Belfast City Airport (BHD), also known as Belfast City Airport, is closer to the city centre at about 5 km away. Flybe is the airline offering the most flight destinations but British Airways, Aer Lingus, and KLM are also popular.
Arriving at the Airport
Belfast Airport consists of one passenger terminal with two floors. The lower floor is reserved for arrivals. International Airport Taxi Company taxis are available just outside 24/7 so booking in advance is not necessary. There are also multiple bus routes which stop at the terminal and serve the greater Northern Ireland area. If you'd prefer to have your own transportation, six car rental companies are available on site, including Alamo and Hertz.
George Best Airport also consists of only one passenger terminal. Due to the airport's close proximity to the city centre, taxis are quick and only cost about $16 CAD. Translink trains are also accessible from the nearby Sydenham train station. Getting to the station is possible via a pedestrian bridge or by shuttle bus. George Best Airport is served by the same car rental companies that can be found at Belfast Airport.
