What to Expect When Arriving in Oslo
International arrivals into Oslo Gardermoen use the east wing of the main terminal. After clearing customs you'll find car rental counters near the secure area and alternate transportation options just outside the doors. Gardermoen is 47 kilometres from Oslo's city centre. The Flytoget shuttle train makes the trip in about 20 minutes and costs about $25.00 CAD. A taxi will run you $95.00 CAD with a surcharge added for late evening and early morning service. Gardermoen offers a number of shops, restaurants, fast food outlets and ATMs. Wi-Fi at the airport is free.
Oslo Torp International, located in the city of Sandefjord, is 110 kilometres south of downtown Oslo. Flat rate taxi fares are usually negotiated before you leave the terminal for the 80-minute trip. The Torp Oslo train takes 1 hour and 45 minutes to get to downtown Oslo and costs $45.00 CAD. Passenger services are similar at Oslo Torp, including free Wi-Fi. Oslo Torp also has one main terminal.

What to See and Do in Oslo
Oslo is an ancient city, founded in 1040 as a trading post and later, in the 1300s, becoming Norway's capital. The sea is important to this northern land, going as far back as the Vikings. Oslo's Viking Ship Museum features centuries old artefacts, including remnants of these watercraft that roamed the oceans. You'll find the Gokstad, a ship built in the 9th century that is surprisingly intact. Tour the Royal Palace, dating back to the 19th century, where the King and Queen of Norway still reside. The Fram Museum is dedicated to polar expeditions, while the Kon-Tiki Museum honours Thor Heyerdahl, the man who crossed an ocean in a recreated reed boat, just to prove it could be done. The Nobel Peace Centre features exhibits about the founder of the prize, Alfred Nobel, and many of the award's recipients. Commune with nature at the Oslo University botanical gardens or head for the Tryvann Ski Resort for a little downhill fun.
