Unfortunately, there are no direct flights from Montreal's Pierre Elliot Trudeau Airport (YUL) to Hong Kong International Airport (HKG). However, Canadians can still reach Hong Kong with only one layover through Air Canada, stopping in either Vancouver (YVR) or Toronto (YYZ). Departing from Montreal
To reach the airport from downtown Montreal, take the 24 hour 747 Express bus line from the corner of Berri and Sainte-Catherine at the UQAM metro station. You can also reach the airport in 30-45 minutes from most parts of the city via taxi, depending on the traffic. This airport is fully equipped with shops, restaurants, lounges, and business areas to keep you busy while you wait for your flight. There is free Wi-Fi available as well as charging stations for your devices. Remember to stop at the International Currency Exchange to pick up some Hong Kong dollars on your way through the airport.
Arriving in Hong Kong
After landing at Hong Kong International Airport, follow the signs to collect your baggage and move through customs. All passengers are required to have their body temperature checked before entering Hong Kong for health reasons. However, even if you have a bit of a fever or a mild cold, you shouldn't be concerned about traveling to Hong Kong. There are doctors on site to assess any incoming passengers for health risks and the majority of travelers move through without any issue. The easiest way to reach the city is via the Airport Express line which runs to Tsing Yi, Kowloon and Hong Kong Stations. From there, you will be able to take public transportation to any part of the city. Many hotels also offer free shuttle services from Kowloon and Hong Kong Stations.
Practical Information
Canadians can travel to Hong Kong as long as they have a passport that is valid for at least 1 month longer than you expect to stay. There is no visa required for up to 90 days in Hong Kong, but you must apply for a Chinese visa before leaving Canada if you plan on entering mainland China. Plan on arriving at the airport at least 3 hours before your departure to check in, make your way through security, and find your way to the gate. For long-haul flights like this, we suggest wearing something comfortable for the trip and bringing a pillow to sleep on the plane. You may also want to bring some reading material to help pass the time.
