What to Expect in Montreal

If possible, you'll want to avoid driving in downtown Montreal -- finding parking can be difficult, and garages are expensive. The city's public transportation system, the Société de Transport de Montréal (STM) operates clean, comfortable, and reliable subways and buses that will take you to most of the places you want to visit. The main language spoken in Montreal is French, but most of the locals speak and understand English. That said, it's a good idea to learn a few phrases in French before arriving in the city -- especially if you plan to venture outside of the downtown core.
