Flying out of San Diego

Formerly known as Lindburgh Field, San Diego International Airport is a small but busy transit point that connects northbound passengers to several American and Canadian destinations and is a popular snowbird haven in its own right. The subdued, authentic, and classy charm of this part of southern California is one of many locations that Canadian sun worshipers have staked out as a haven from the cold. Once you've used our search tool to find your accommodation of choice and you've got a great tan, we can also help you navigate your way back to the Lower Mainland and everything that makes the Pacific Northwest worth the six months of rain.

Vancouver International Airport Options

You might not believe that the graceful, reflective glass building next to all those planes is an airport until you actually arrive there and disembark. Vancouver International Airport (YYZ) is a spacious, open-concept design that integrates landscaped greenery, designer duty-free malls, boutique villages, water features, and fine artwork. Most of the present design and features date from the Winter Olympics renovations in 2010, but the intent of bringing the outside in as much as possible was always a consistent feature.

The airport gets quiet in the wee hours, but most amenities are still open around the clock. The YVR-Skytrain link doesn't run between 1 am and 4:30 am, so arrange for other transportation in advance if you're riding a redeye. There are special considerations taken for travelers who are connecting to points in the United States or to a cruise ship leaving from the busy port downtown.

International Travel Options Vancouver Airport

YVR is two terminals that are part of the same building. They are often referred to as Main and South and are well equipped with everything from basic amenities to a variety of shops, restaurants, and lounges. Flights are organized by domestic or international departures, so connecting from an international to domestic flight often requires a short stroll.

There are several flights to choose from for the fairly popular San Diego-Vancouver route, a scenic trip along the west coast of North America. Air Canada, which has a hub in this airport, has the most flights on this route but is by no means your only option. During the colder winter months, these flights can get more crowded, so plan in advance to save money on flights.
