Finding cheap flights from Toronto Island to New York: Frequently asked questions
Flying out of Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport
Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (YTZ), also known as Toronto Island Airport, is quite unique. To get to this island airport, you'll have to either take a short ferry ride or walk the pedestrian tunnel. You'll want to arrive at least an hour before your flight, with your airline ticket and valid passport. You won't need to obtain a visa to visit New York City.
Unfortunately, you cannot fly direct from YTZ to New York City. However, via Porter Airlines you can fly direct to Newark, New Jersey, which is about 24km from Manhattan. If you want to fly to a New York airport, you will have at least one layover, likely in Boston or Montreal.
New York Airport Options
Since Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) in Newark, New Jersey is the only airport to which you can fly direct from YTZ, it likely makes the most sense to fly there. A taxi ride from EWR to Manhattan will cost between $65 and $95, depending on your exact destination. You can also take the AirTrain for around $18, or rent a car if you're willing to brave the New York traffic yourself.
Depending on where you will be staying in New York, LaGuardia Airport (LGA) or John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) might be the better choice, despite the required layover. LGA is best if you will be staying in Long Island or on the east side of Manhattan and JFK is best if you will be staying in borough neighbourhoods like Park Slope or Brooklyn Heights.
