Also known as Ezeiza International Airport because of it’s proximity to the neighborhood of Ezeiza Partido, Buenos Aires Ministro Pistarini Airport (EZE) is the largest international airport in Argentina and the busiest in the country. It was named for Juan Pistarini, who served the country as a general and a politician, and laid the cornerstone of the airport when construction first began in 1945.
Airlines that fly to Buenos Aires Ministro Pistarini Airport
You could go down this whole list alphabetically, as the number of airlines that occupy this airport is impressive, including the Canadian flagship carrier and a number of other national airlines.
- Aerolíneas Argentinas is the national flagship carrier and serves more routes than any other airline at EZE. Most of the flights are regional, either within the country or the South American continent, however there are routes to major American cities and a number of European destinations, such as Madrid and Rome.
- Air Canada currently flies directly to EZE from Toronto’s Pearson (YYZ) airport, and is the only Canadian airline represented here. Any flight that goes to Argentina from Canada has to connect in YYZ.
- American Airlines, United, and Delta all fly directly to EZE from various cities in the United States. If you’re flying from Canada and not planning on connecting in Toronto, you can also make your connection here.
- LATAM Airlines, an airline group that has branches in virtually every South American country, dominates the roster at EZE. They cover a variety of regional routes and also fly directly to Miami and New York.
Arriving in Buenos Aires Ministro Pistarini Airport
When you exit your flight at EZE, there are a few administrative hoops that you may have to jump through depending on your country of origin. Here are a few handy tips to make the process easier.
- Visas. Any citizen from a country that charges Argentinian nationals an entry fee has to pay what is politely called a “reciprocity fee” upon arrival. The price is equivalent to whatever your country charges an Argentinian for a visa. Sometimes this fee is paid in the country of origin before departure. There are exceptions for Americans that are spending less than 90 days in the country or visiting as tourists.
- Ground Transportation. There is no public transport link to Buenos Aires from the airport, but the Riccheri Highway provides easy road access for taxis, limousines, and private cars. One option is to take a bus from the airport to the small nearby town of Ezeiza and catch another local bus or regional train. Direct shuttle buses connect the airport to several nearby tourist destinations.
- VIP Memberships. The corporate entity that owns and manages Argentina’s airports, Aeropuertos Argentina 2000, organizes a special VIP Club that offers special services to its members in any airport that they own. Aeropuertos VIP members enjoy perks like assisted customs clearance, priority boarding status, and exclusive parking spots.
