Discover Camaguey
When visiting Cuba, most tourists choose destinations along the country's coast to be near the ocean and the beaches. But if you're looking for a change of pace from the typical tropical vacation, visiting a city in central Cuba, like Camaguey, is a great choice. Ignacio Agramonte International Airport (CMW), also known as Camaguey Airport, is the main gateway into the city. No matter where you're coming from, Skyscanner can help you find the cheapest airfare to Camaguey. You can not only search and compare all available flight routes on your travel dates, you can also book through Skyscanner with no hidden fees.
Best Time to Book a Flight to Camaguey
Since the temperatures in Camaguey are consistently high throughout the year, there's really no bad time to visit the city. Most tourists, however, prefer to visit during Cuba's dry season, which generally occurs from November to April. The rainiest month of the year in Camaguey is June. With such a large window of opportunity for hot, sunny weather, the right time to fly often comes down to price. Skyscanner's Cheapest Month Search Tool will scan the entire year and show you the month with the best airfare prices.
Airlines that Fly to Ignacio Agramonte International Airport
CMW is served by nine airlines flying both domestically and internationally. Currently, the only domestic location available is Havana. Through Air Transat, Cubana de Aviacion, and Sunwing Airlines, you can fly direct from Montreal or from Toronto to Camaguey.
Arriving at the Airport
Ignacio Airport is split into two terminals, one for domestic flights and one for international flights. The international terminal is then subdivided into an arrivals building and a departures building. The taxi rank is located outside of the international arrivals building. Downtown Camaguey is about 8 km away from the airport and the ride will take about ten minutes.
If you are not meeting a tour operator at the airport, taking a taxi is probably your best bet as there are no public transportation links at the airport. However, there is a VIAZUL bus station in downtown Camaguey if you are planning to travel throughout Cuba. Rental cars are another great transportation option. You can rent a car at Camaguey Airport through the service agents on site, or book free online with Skyscanner and pick up your car quickly and easily upon arrival.
Ignacio Agramonte International Airport Facilities
Services and amenities available at Ignacio Airport are fairly limited. Standard facilities, like restrooms, public telephones, and small shops are available, but internet access is not. If you are at the airport to catch a connecting flight, there is a V.I.P. lounge available for about $25 CAD. In the lounge, you'll have access to free newspapers, snacks, alcohol and other beverages, and express flight check-in services. If you're heading directly into the city, you can grab a quick snack or drink at the refreshment kiosks located just outside of the terminals.
What to See and Do in Camaguey
Camaguey is a city filled with statues, monuments, and historic buildings, allowing tourists to experience Cuba's rich culture and heritage. One of the best neighbourhoods to visit is Camaguey Centro. As the city's central neighbourhood, you'll find all the most authentic Cuban shops and cuisine down these streets. You'll also see dozens of important Camaguey landmarks and beautiful, architecturally significant buildings and churches.
After exploring the Centro streets, be sure to stop by Martha Jimenez's Studio Workshop to get an up-close look at the works of one of the city's most prominent artists. Jimenez's art, which ranges from sculptures to paintings, often centres on the theme of women and their societal roles.
