Cheap flights from Jamaica

Cheap flights from Jamaica

You’re in Jamaica; maybe you live here or perhaps you’re here as a tourist. As beautiful as Jamaica can be, you’re restless for some more action. If this is you, you don’t need to decide on one destination and wait around for a cheap fare. If you have a Canadian passport, you can probably go anywhere on a whim. Who says you can’t spontaneously decide to go wherever the cheapest fares take you?

For adventurous people, it’s a great new way to travel -- use a reliable fare search engine like Skyscanner, and make an open-ended search: what are the cheapest flights from Jamaica. You’d be surprised how many top-drawer destinations there are out there that you haven’t thought of, and that are a steal.

How does this feature work?

Skyscanner -- whether you go on the website or the raved-about app (really, just look at what the New York Times says;) -- is all about finding a place that works for you and getting you traveling.

All you need to do is to put in the city that you are departing from (in your case, an airport in Jamaica that’s closest), and, then, in the date field, click on Whole month. You select a month or click on Find Cheapest Month. When you hit “Search,” Skyscanner simply runs with this, and gives you all the cheapest fares for whatever destination and month you’ve chosen, or tell you what month is cheapest. It’s a great way to open up possibilities. You don’t even need to do your research first to pick a destination; Skyscanner does unique research for you.

Where could you go from Jamaica, for instance?

Imagine that you are in Kingston, and would like to find out where you can go. If you’d like cheap flights from Jamaica to Vancouver, or cheap flights from Jamaica to Toronto, Skyscanner tells you that in June, 18 and 30 are about the cheapest with fares starting at C$264. If you’d like cheap flights from Jamaica to Germany in the month of August, fares start at C$532. If you’d simply like to go to somewhere else in the Caribbean, say, St. Lucia, it starts from C$452.

While no single airline search engine is perfect, Skyscanner comes very close, often even listing tiny, local regional airlines that other, large search engines miss. Try that open-ended search. It’s a great way to inspire yourself. It’s a wonderful feeling to know what’s possible.

Once you’ve made up your mind, get to the airport

Jamaica has two major international airports: Donald Sangster International airport in Montego Bay and Norman Manley International in Kingston. These are quality, well-developed airports with high-quality services for passengers.

Kingston’s airport has free Wi-Fi, first-class lounges (accessible to passengers flying economy through the purchase of a pass), shopping and a great food court, and, a very popular feature, plenty of free samples of the popular local beverage, Red Stripe punch and beer.

Donald Sangster is smaller and less well-equipped, and closes at 11 each night, but is still very serviceable. It has all the essentials, and it works well.
