●        Taxis - Taxis are the most expensive way to get to Sapporo. They cost about 4,200 yen ($55) per trip to and from Sapporo Okadama Airport and 16,000 yen ($205) to and around New Chitose Airport.

●        Train - Train is the most popular transfer option from Sapporo airports to the city centre. The Rapid Airport (JR) train takes only 37 minute between CTS and Sapporo Station, and it costs just 1,070 yen ($13.69). The same train takes 11 minutes to transport passengers from OKD to Sapporo Station and it costs just 270 yen ($ 3.45).

What to Do In Sapporo

Beautiful Sapporo offers much to visitors. Those that are curious about Japan’s beer industry can book a tour of the Sapporo Beer Museum and Garden. Hokkaido produces the famous Sapporo beer that finds its way into bars and restaurants throughout Canada and the world. Sapporo beer, the oldest and most popular beer in the country, has been brewed since 1877. The Sapporo Beer Museum is registered as a Hokkaido Heritage destination, and it is a great place to learn about the long and unique history of Sapporo breweries and the beer industry in Japan. The museum is free, and at the end of a tour, visitors can head over to the adjoining Sapporo Beer Garden to savour fresh draft beer.

Visit the Historic Village of Hokkaido (Kaitaku no Mura), an open-air museum in Sapporo, and view exhibits of nearly 60 buildings from all over Hokkaido - dating from the Meiji and Taisho periods (1868 to 1926). This museum is divided into four sections: a town, a fishing village, a farm village, and a mountain village. After touring the villages, you can check out the Historical Museum of Hokkaido (Kaitaku Kinenkan), which is a 10-minute walk from the open-air museum. The Historical Museum of Hokkaido documents the history of Hokkaido’s development, chronologically covering almost 20,000 years of time including the post-war years after 1945 and into the future. There are many outstanding experiences to enjoy in Sapporo, but many travellers find that the ultimate thing to do in the city is bathing in an onsen (natural hot springs) in the middle of gorgeous Japanese nature. A visit to an onsen allows one to appreciate marvelous views in snowy Hokkaido, with much-needed warmth and welcomed relaxation.

Other highlights of a trip to Sapporo include visiting Hokkaido-jingu (Hokkaido’s oldest shrine), strolling in the Hokkaido University Botanical Garden, and seeing the Sapporo Clock Tower.
