Skiathos Airport (JSI) is a small regional airport on the island of Skiathos in Greece. It offers year-round flights to Athens, as well as a wide variety of international flights during peak tourist season. The airport is known for its short runway located next to a public road, making it a favourite among planespotters who want to experience low-altitude flyovers during takeoff and landing.

The best time to visit Skiathos is during the summer months of June through September, when the weather is perfect for kicking back on the beach and sightseeing. However, this time of year is extremely popular so you'll want to book your hotel well in advance to make sure you get a great spot! Budget-conscious travelers should consider flying to Skiathos during the months of April, May, and October, when the weather is still nice but the rush of tourists have left for the season. 

Getting to Skiathos Airport

JSI is a very small airport that is not a hub for any major international airline. However, you can still find a cheap flight if you know where to look! Flights to and from Athens are offered year-round through Olympic Air and Sky Express. In the summer, you can find flights to Skiathos through most major European airlines, including Austrian Airlines, Finnair, British Airways, and more.

There are no direct flights from Canada to Skiathos available. To get there, you'll have to fly through Athens (ATH) in the fall and winter months, or through a major city like Vienna (VIE), London (LGW), or Helsinki (HEL) during the summer.

Greece is a Schengen area country, which means that Canadians can visit for up to 90 days without requiring a special visa. However, you'll still need to carry a passport that is valid for at least 3 months past your expected date of departure.

Skiathos Airport Facilities

Skiathos Airport consists of one main terminal with basic amenities. There are two restaurants in the airport (one before security and one after), as well as a duty-free shop. There is no currency exchange available inside the airport, so remember to bring some cash with you before you leave! Otherwise, there are ATMs located throughout the pre- and post-security areas. Taxis are available for hire just outside the airport entrance, and Hertz is the only car rental agency with a desk at the airport. Free Wi-Fi is available to all passengers, but there are few charging stations available. If you're traveling during peak tourist season, we suggest charging all of your devices before you arrive at the airport. 

What to Do in Skiathos

Skiathos is a gorgeous Greek island located in the northwest Aegean Sea. Known mostly for its stunning beaches and active nightlife, it's a popular destination for students during spring break. In Skiathos town, cafes and restaurants spill out onto the streets between the old harbour and the main pedestrian walkway, Papadiamanti street. There are many open-air clubs along the waterfront between the town and the airport, which transform the town into a real party in the summertime. Needless to say, if you want a quiet beach vacation, you should definitely not visit Skiathos in the summer!

Some of Skiathos' most popular beaches include Lalaria Beach, which is only accessible by boat, and Koukounaries Beach, which is full of beautiful white sand and flanked by a pine forest on each side.
