Best Time to Book a Flight to Saint Lucia
Most Canadians choose to visit Saint Lucia during the wintertime, because of its gorgeous, tropical weather and endless sunshine. High Season spans between December and March, leading to crowded beaches and higher prices on accommodations. If you'd like to beat the crowds, consider planning your trip in April or May. Airports in Saint Lucia
Hewanorra International Airport
The biggest airport in Saint Lucia is Hewanorra International Airport (UVF), located in Vieux Fort Quarter about 53 km away from the capital of Castries. UVF is the country's main portal for seasonal travellers, hosting flights from Canada, USA, and Europe. Island-to-island flights aren't offered by Hewanorra International Airport, although they do provide cargo services from other Caribbean nations.
Another downside, UVF's location is about a 60-minute drive from the main resort areas. However, this airport does offer superior amenities for travellers, including shops, duty-free stores, and food vendors. On-site car rental is also available here.
George F. L. Charles Airport
Saint Lucia's secondary airport is George F. L. Charles Airport (SLU), situated 2 km north of Castries. The airport's runway sits directly beside Vigie Beach, one of the island's most beautiful beaches. It's also within walking distance of Saint Lucia's prime resort area.
Only hosting around 394,000 passengers per year, SLU receives far less passenger traffic than Hewanorra International Airport. A hub within the Caribbean Sea, this airport offers direct flights from Puerto Rico, Trinidad, Antigua, San Juan, Port of Spain, and other island nations. Indeed, George F. L. Charles Airport is ideal if you're travelling to Saint Lucia from another island, as opposed to Europe or North America.
