Hangzhou enjoys four distinct seasons and each season brings out a different side to the city. June to September is both hot and humid and is perhaps the least pleasant time to visit. Spring, meanwhile, provides excellent weather, although this is also peak tourist season. Autumn is even more pleasant, especially for taking in the beautiful West Lake. Airlines that Fly to Hangzhou Airport
Hangzhou Airport is an important international airport with dozens of airlines serving it. It is currently a hub or focus city for Loong Air, Xiamen Airlines, Air China, China Southern Airlines, China Eastern Airlines, and Hainan Airlines, all of which offer extensive connections to cities across China. Hainan Airlines also offers the only direct flight from Hangzhou to a Canadian city, in this case Vancouver. What to Expect When Arriving at the Airport
The airport is located about 30 km from the city centre and the trip to the city by car can take up to an hour depending on traffic. There is a shuttle bus that will take you to the Xiaoshan Bus ticket office on Tiyuchang Road and the city's main train station. Buses depart ever 15 to 30 minutes. Airport Facilities
Hangzhou Airport is a new airport that is currently undergoing extensive expansion and renovation. As such, the architecture is spacious and modern and facilities are kept immaculately clean. Queues for security and customs, however, can be quite long depending on when your flight arrives and how many planes are being offloaded. The international departures area is also quite small, although it is being expanded to better handle the increase in passengers. Keep in mind that English-language services at the airport may be limited and WiFi connectivity is a bit spotty.
What to See and Do in Hangzhou
The biggest attraction in Hangzhou is the West Lake Scenic Area, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that is divided into dozens of individual sights worth seeing, including the Broken Bridge, the Mid-Lake Pavilion, and the Lesser Yingzhou Isle. There are also numerous spots for enjoying a boat ride on the lake. The Liuhe Pagoda is one of the finest multi-story Chinese pagodas in the world and dates from the 12th century.
