What to Expect When Arriving at Sochi Airport

Sochi International Airport is located 30 km away from the city's downtown core. At the airport, you'll find several methods of transportation. You can hop aboard a bus: #51 for downtown, #105 or #125 for Sochi's railway station, or #135 for Krasnaya Polyana, a nearby resort town. There are commuter trains available into downtown too.

Taxi service can be chaotic at Sochi's airport. The drivers rarely speak English, which will be a hindrance if you aren't fluent in Russian. So, it's better to book a taxi in advance of arrival. Your hotel in Sochi can often arrange this service for you. If you prefer to drive yourself, rental cars are available on-site at AER.

Airport Facilities

Russia's Sochi International Airport was completely renovated in honour of the 2014 Winter Olympics. It's a bright, state-of-art facility with many upscale amenities for travellers. To celebrate Sochi's Olympic legacy, you can still buy the official athlete apparel by Bosco Sport clothing. There are also shops selling traditional Eastern European foods, such as catfish caviar, smoked fish, and Koryonovka ice cream. Other souvenirs like matryoshkas (Russian nesting dolls), sparkling wine, fine furs, and amber jewelry can be found, as well.
