How to get to and from Newark airport
Part of planning your trip to Newark is considering how you will travel around the area. Newark airport offers public transportation, taxis, and car rentals. The least expensive and most efficient way to get to and from the Newark airport is via AirTrain. These trains run 24/7, 365 days per year and will connect you to New Jersey transit and Amtrak. You can also connect to Manhattan, Westchester, Connecticut, and upstate New York.
NJ Transit Buses 28, 37, 62, 67, and 107 also serve the airport. Buses located outside Level 1 of Terminal A by stop 5 travel to Grand Central Station. Buses located outside Level 1 of Terminal B by stop 2 go between the airport and Bryant Park. If you want to travel to and from the NJ Transit Bus terminal, you will find that bus stop outside Level 1 of Terminal C at bus stops 5 and 6.
For those who wish to rent a car for traveling in the area, most of the major rental car agencies serve Newark Liberty International Airport. You will find counters in the ground transportation area for Avis, Budget, Hertz, Dollar, Enterprise, Payless, National, Alamo, Thrifty, and Advantage. Taxis are also available. As of 2016, you will pay about $15 to $18 to get to the city of Newark. Fares to Manhattan run between $50 and $75 depending on the part of the city to which you are headed.
If you choose to travel to and from Newark International Airport via a shared-ride van or private car, you can make reservations ahead of time. The Port Authority Welcome Center at the airport arrival level of all three terminals will aid you with reservations on your arrival. If you are traveling outside of business hours, take advantage of the convenient self-service kiosk where you can contact authorized transportation providers including vans, limousines, and private cars.
