Cheap flights to Split Airport
Split Airport (SPU) is the main airport serving Split, Croatia's second largest city and the unofficial capital of Dalmatia. Due to its warm climate and sunny weather, Split is a popular seasonal destination. But with roots dating back to the Roman Empire, this city is as much a delight for culture buffs as it is for those looking for some sun. To find the cheapest flights to Split, you can make use of Skyscanner's monthly search tool, which will help you narrow down which time of the year is the cheapest to fly.
Best time to book a flight to Split
High season in Split is July and August. The weather during these months is fantastic, with sunny days being the norm. Of course, prices also tend to be higher and you will have to contend with the summer crowds. The shoulder seasons of May to June and September to October still offer great weather but at a more affordable price. Few airlines fly to Split during the winter months, when temperatures can dip to near-zero. There are several duty-free shops that you can take advantage of while waiting for your flight to board.
What to see and do in Split
Split was built around the Roman Emperor Diocletian's Palace, the remains of which can still be explored and are a UNESCO World Heritage Site. St. Duje's Cathedral, built in 305 AD as a mausoleum for the Emperor Diocletian, is the oldest cathedral building in the world. Its bell tower, which has a fantastic view of the city, serves as a symbol for Split. Aside from enjoying Split's impressive cultural offerings, you can also check out the nearby beaches. Marjan Forest Park offers good hiking opportunities with scenic outlooks close to the city centre. When searching for a hotel, be sure to check out the offerings on Skyscanner.
