Cheap Flights to Kuala Lumpur
Kuala Lumpur is a fascinating melting pot of Malay, Chinese, Indian and British culture, where history is celebrated but modernization is prioritized. The city is full of awe-inspiring architecture, revered religious sites, world-class shopping and unforgettable culinary experiences. What's more, all of this comes at a fraction of the cost of other large Asian cities. In Kuala Lumpur, travelers on a modest budget can dip their feet into the world of luxury travel, while travelers who are comfortable spending more can live like royalty.
Best Time to Book a Flight to Kuala Lumpur
Kuala Lumpur has two high seasons: the period between May and August, and the period between December and February. The city tends to be hot and humid year-round, but during the high seasons there is a lessened chance of tropical storms and heavy rainfalls. Much of the city's population is Muslim, meaning that many eateries are closed throughout the day during Ramadan. Consider traveling before or after Ramadan if you want to sample typical Malaysian dishes likes like nasi lemak (rice steamed in coconut milk and pandan leaves) or laksa (spicy curry noodle soup). When you've narrowed down your travel dates, set up a Skyscanner price alert to receive an instant notification when flights to Kuala Lumpur go on sale.
Airports in Kuala Lumpur
Kuala Lumpur has two international airports. The largest, Kuala Lumpur International Airport (often just abbreviated as KLIA), is located fifty kilometers south of the city, in the Sepang region. The airport features two large terminals which are connected by a low-cost train ride. Both terminals have frequent train and express bus service to Kuala Lumpur's central train station. Kuala Lumpur's other airport, Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport, is much closer to the city center, and offers express bus service into town. From either airport it is also possible to hire a taxi or opt for your own rental car.
What to See and Do in Kuala Lumpur
Kuala Lumpur has many interesting neighbourhoods to discover. For travelers who prioritize shopping, entertainment and nightlife, choosing a hotel in the Golden Triangle area is recommended. On the other hand, staying in the Old City Centre or Brookfields is preferable for travelers looking to immerse themselves in the local culture.
Many people like to begin their trip to Kuala Lumpur with a visit to the iconic Petronas Twin Towers, which is the tallest twin building in the world. In the area around the towers guests will find an enormous aquarium at Aquaria KLCC, excellent shopping at the Suria KLCC shopping center, and a surprising urban sanctuary in the vivid KLCC Park.
Your next stop in Kuala Lumpur has to be the Batu Caves, which are located just north of the city center and accessible by train from the KL Sentral station. These mysterious caves have been used by Hindu priests for more than one hundred years, and have been decorated with hundreds of statues of Hindu gods (including golden statue that rises over forty metres). The caves are inhabited by dozens of macaque monkeys who are comfortable being hand-fed by tourists, but who are also known to help themselves to treats without first being invited!
