Cheap Flights to Belize City
Escape the Canadian cold and grab a cheap flight to Belize City. Temperatures in this Caribbean destination range from 23℃ to 28℃ year-round, making it a great escape. The country of Belize borders Guatemala, Mexico and the Caribbean Sea, and is known for its tropical landscape which boasts excellent conditions for scuba diving. However, tourists often overlook Belize City because it is an urban cityscape. Belize City - the historical capital of the country - is the largest city in Belize and is a financial and industrial hub. Although Belize City does not offer beaches, it is located in close proximity to the Belize River and the Caribbean Sea, and it offers an extensive array of vibrant cultural experiences to the Canadian visitor.
What to Do in Belize City
The north-side of Belize City is the safest and most appealing to tourists. Among the attractions that Belize City has to offer are the Museum of Belize, a casino, restaurants, and shops. You'll also be able to take tours, such as a water raft tour through Belize's caves, which pick you up and drop you off at your Belize City hotel. You can use Skyscanner's hotel search tool to find the best accommodations for your trip to Belize City. Be sure to check out the Mayan Ruins, which are just outside of the city. Belize City offers a fusion of Caribbean, colonial and modern architecture. Don't be fooled, Belize City is not a paradisiac resort; it is a ramshackle city, but, if you're in need of an authentic cultural experience and a true culture shock, it is the place to go.
Airports in Belize City
Belize City is serviced by Sir Barry Bowen Municipal Airport, which is located within the city limits. This airport, which was upgraded in 2016, is the most centrally located airport. Alternatively, Canadian travelers can opt for a cheap flight into Philip S. W. Goldson International Airport. This airport is the larger and busier airport, but it is a 30-minute drive to the city centre. Both airports offer transportation services.
Getting Around in Belize City
The infrastructure of Belize City is designed for foot-traffic and scooters - streets are narrow and have many potholes. Renting a vehicle is not ideal in this city, but public and private transportation - such as cabs and water-taxis - are readily available. Be sure to check out The Swing Bridge, which is well-traveled and is a popular bridge in the heart of the city; however, beware of peddlers. Although there are no current travel advisories for Canadian visitors, Belize City does have a reputation for crime. Local government has taken steps to improve these conditions.
