How to Pack Like a Travel Pro
Even seasoned travellers can struggle with packing their bags. You don’t want to pack too much, but at the same time, you don’t want to forget anything vital. Follow these travel tips, and you’ll be ready for a stress-free flight.
Keep a Goodie Bag – You should always bring more than just snacks for the flight. And that’s why we think it’s a good idea to pack a few essentials! Carry-on friendly mini toiletries, medications, and hand sanitizer (under 100ml) are all excellent items to have in case your luggage goes missing when you land. If you’re travelling with children, make sure you have some of their favourite items to keep them entertained.
Fill up Your Phone – Before you start your trip, make sure to download a few handy travel apps. If you need to do some work and send some messages up in the air, check with your airline before you travel. Many airlines currently offer onboard WiFi connectivity, whether it be through some complimentary or paid plan. Check Skyscanner’s guide here to see what kind of WiFi connectivity plan your airline offers.
Organize your Outfits – It doesn’t matter if you prefer to pack a week in advance or at the last-minute, one packing travel hack is to lay out all your outfits before rolling (not folding!) them in your backpack or suitcase. If you’re looking to save space, use packing cubes. Looking for the latest in lightweight suitcases? We’ve got a guide for you on the best carry-on suitcases on the market.
Prepare for the Plane – Always pack a few extras in your hand luggage to make your flight more enjoyable. Noise cancelling headphones, earplugs and an eye mask are all very useful items for a flight. Try bringing a small herbal balm to rub on your pressure points to help you relax while you’re inflight. Lavender or lemongrass are all very good scents to help you stay calm.
Staying Fresh in the Sky
Flights can be uncomfortable (especially long-hauls), but it’s not that hard to stay fresh while up in the air. Just follow these travel tips below to keep you feeling relatively fresh throughout your flight!
Stay Hydrated – Air circulation on planes aren’t exactly ideal, so it’s important to stay hydrated. Drink lots of water and try to avoid caffeinated drinks while you travel since your body reacts differently to it when in the sky. The Emirates Cabin Crew told us they use hydrating sprays to keep them looking fresh.
Protect your Lips – With the dry air in the cabin, you’re bound to get chapped lips and skin. Try using all multi-purpose balm for your skin and lips (anything with coconut oil, shea butter or cocoa butter) and apply it throughout the flight. Add a drop or two of your favourite essential oil to your balm for that extra calming aromatherapy!
How to Combat Jetlag
Jetlag is the worst, don’t you agree? You want to be out there exploring, but your body is confused about what time it is. Try these travel tips, and hopefully, you’ll be over your jetlag in just a few hours instead of a few days.
Reset your Clock – If you’re heading to a country in a different time zone, start switching up your routine. Adjust the time you eat and when you go to bed according to the local destination time. It won’t happen in one day so try starting a week in advance.
Get Comfortable – Trying to get good sleep on a plane is impossible for some, but you should at least try to get comfortable. We already talked about noise cancelling headphones, and an eye mask, but how about a travel pillow, compression socks or warm and fuzzy socks? Also, don’t overeat on the plane. Instead, keeping things light is always one of the best tried and tested travel tips out there!
Explore the Outdoors – Once you’re on the ground, you’ll want to spend as much time as possible outdoors. The sunshine will tell your body what time it is and hopefully exploring your destination will keep you energized.
Travel Tips: How to See a City in 24 Hours
As you can imagine, the Emirates Cabin Crew has quite a few stopovers. The following travel tips will help you see your destination in 24 hours or less.
Take a Hop-On, Hop-Off Bus – Normally, I’m not a big fan of the Hop-On, Hop-Off Bus, but with limited time, it makes sense to jump on one. These buses are available in almost every major city and will take you by all the main attraction (many include audio guides). There’s no planning required on your end since transportation is obviously included.
Start Exploring – Sometimes the best thing about exploring a new destination is getting lost. As soon as you arrive, just start exploring the streets and see where things lead you. Pop into a local coffee shop or try some street food. Hidden travel gems seem to find those who aren’t looking for them.
Take a Personal Tour – A bus tour is great if you want to see things fast, but how about slowing things down by taking a walking neighbourhood tour? Just about every major city in the world has some kind of organized tour available – many of them being free. Just Google free tours and then try to narrow it down to your interests e.g. food, nightlife, etc. Looking for some other travel tips? Skyscanner also has a free for you on some great free city tours right here.
