Flying out of Vancouver International Airport
Air Canada tends to have the best air rates and schedules to Madrid, Spain. Though non-stops are not available, a one-stop connection through Toronto Pearson International is a preferred route. Air Canada also code-shares with various airline partners, such as United and Lufthansa. Code-sharing means the ticket is bought through Air Canada, but one or more of the connecting flights are on the partner airline. Flights from Vancouver to Madrid that have two stops or longer layovers tend to be less expensive, but not always. It pays to shop around. The one-stop routes are offered daily. Vancouver Airport Terminal Information
The Vancouver International Airport is 15 kilometres south of downtown Vancouver. The Canada Line, Vancouver's rapid transit service, runs from the city to the train's YVR Airport Station at the Main Terminal. If flying into the South Terminal on a domestic flight, a complimentary shuttle to the Main Terminal is available. International flights use Section C and D of the Main Terminal. Arrivals are on Level 2, as is the Customs and Border Patrol screening area. Departures leave from Level 3. Fast food, cafés and specialty eateries are found before and after the security checkpoints. The same is true for specialty shops, including familiar high-end brands. Duty Free shops are on Level 3 of the Main Terminal, after security. Currency exchanges, ATMs and relaxing lounges are nearby.
Madrid Airport Terminal Information
The Madrid Barajas International Airport (MAD) is roughly 13 kilometres from Madrid's city centre. RENFE trains run from the city centre to Terminal T4, with free airport shuttle buses to the airport's other terminals. International flights, including Air Canada, use Terminal T1, which is filled with brand-name shops as well as several Duty Free stores. Coffee shops, fast food outlets and specialty food shops are available in the arrival and departure areas. A VIP lounge is on the terminal's second floor. Take advantage of the available ATMs, currency exchange, post office and pharmacy before venturing out into the city.
