Terminal Information for Oslo Airport
Oslo Airport's layout is fairly simple, with only one long terminal divided into two piers (east and west). The east pier serves domestic flights at Gates 2 to 26, and the west pier serves international flights at Gates 35 to 59. Departures are on the ground floor and arrivals on Level 1.
The easiest way to reach the airport is by public transport. Oslo Airport has superb ground transportation connections and 60 percent of passengers make their way to the airport this way. Two train companies, Flytoget and Norwegian State Railways (NSB), service the airport route and trains take only about 20 minutes from the city centre. Buses, taxis, and shuttles also operate to and from the airport.
Terminal Information for Toronto Pearson International Airport
In comparison, Toronto Pearson International Airport is much larger and busier with plenty of shops, restaurants, over 40 ATMs, and excellent public transport links. The airport has two main terminals, with most international flights touching down at Terminal 1.
For those with hunger pangs, there's no need to wait until after going through security. Starbucks, Tim Horton's, and Subway are some of the snack bars that greet passengers as they walk through the arrival doors.
Toronto Pearson Airport recently introduced an automated border clearance (ABC) process for Canadian citizens and permanent residents. Canadian citizens returning home can simply walk up to the ABC touchscreen kiosks, scan their travel document, insert the completed Declaration Card, and answer a few questions. The kiosk then prints out a receipt and, along with their travel document, travellers take this to the checkpoint for verification. Non-Canadian citizens follow the usual customs and border control protocol.
What You Need to Know
Citizens of Norway do not need a visa to travel to Canada. They do, however, require an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA). To apply, a valid passport, credit card, and email address are all that is needed. Applications are done online, only take a few minutes, cost a mere CA$7, and are usually approved in minutes. Take the eTA and passport along and make sure to check in at least 1.5 hours before departure.
What to Expect in Toronto
Toronto is a vibrant city offering tourists plenty to do. In summer, make your way to the top of the iconic CN Tower for views across the city. In winter, immerse yourself in Canada's favourite sport — hockey! Norwegians will easily cope with Canada's brisk winters given that their winter climate is equally cold. Both cities average minus 3 degrees Celsius in January. Both cities also have a reputation of being expensive, but there are ways to save. In winter and fall, hotel rates are lower. On the other hand, going in summer means access to free beaches and outdoor activities.
