Cheap Flights from Edinburgh to Montreal
Flying out of Edinburgh
Although the city itself isn’t exactly a major metropolitan center, this is one of the United Kingdom’s busiest airports for both domestic and international flight routes. If you are visiting Edinburgh or taking a connecting flight from the region, you have several options. All of these airports host international routes and carriers that will take you across the pond, as the saying goes, even if not directly to Canada. The following airports are all less than 100 km away from the city of Edinburgh:
- Edinburgh Airport (EDI)
- Glasgow International Airport (GLA)
- Glasgow Prestwick Airport (PIK)
EDI dominates the field as far as flights and connections go in the area partly due to geography. You can even rent a car and take yourself between departure points. It’s closely connected with both Gatwick and Heathrow in London along with other points in Scandinavia and the North Atlantic.
Airlines that Fly from Edinburgh to Montreal
It’s possible to find a direct flight from EDI to Toronto (YYZ) with Air Canada Rouge, but any flight going from Edinburgh to Montreal currently requires at least one stopover in London, Halifax, or even Reykjavik, with any of the following airlines:
- British Airways
- Air Transat
- WOW Air
- Air Canada Rouge
These kinds of long-haul, international routes are also shared among airline alliance partners, which can include a number of different travel companies. Air Canada is part of the Star Alliance group, so your flight from Edinburgh to Montreal can include any other affiliate airline.
Montreal Airport Options
The geographic region in which Montreal is located is part of the busiest commute and transportation hub on the whole North American continent. Make sure you have accommodation worked out in advance if you’re moving through this area at a busy time or during a holiday.
Nicknamed the Golden Horseshoe as a reference to the amount of commerce and business that takes place here, the traffic in this area includes local routes from the American eastern seaboard, the Great Lakes, and national routes that can take you to any point in Canada. There are three airports within the vicinity of Montreal that handle regional and international passenger traffic:
- Montreal St Hubert Airport (YHU)
- Burlington Airport (BTV)
- Montreal Pierre Elliott Trudeau Airport (YUL)
As Montreal is fairly close to the US border, your options also include airports in Vermont, Maine, or new York state. Flights from overseas usually land at YUL, which handles more long-haul routes and hosts more global carriers than the others. Your flight from Edinburgh will likely conclude at the international section of the main terminal at YUL. It is one of only two airports in Canada that flies directly to all five continents, the only other being a few hours away in Toronto.
