What to expect when arriving at the airport
Thessaloniki Airport is just 13 km from the city centre. To get to the city you will usually have three options: bus, taxi, or car hire. The bus (Route 78) is extremely cheap, but it only runs every 45 minutes and it takes another 45 minutes to get to the city. A taxi will only cost about 15 euros to reach the city centre and is much faster. If you're willing to brave Thessaloniki's streets, then renting a car is also an option and there are a number of rental agencies within the terminal.
Airport facilities
Unfortunately, Thessaloniki International Airport is beginning to show its age and it can get particularly crowded and unpleasant during the summer months. Expect long wait times depending on which season you're visiting in. On the plus side, there is a 24 hour restaurant, free unlimited WiFi, and enough shops to keep you occupied. Make sure you charge your electronic devices before visiting the airport as finding an outlet is challenging.
