The biggest little airport in Oaxaca state, this airport is about the same size as the region's other busy transport hub in Oaxaca City. Bahías de Huatulco International Airport (HUX) has modern, open concept design and its seaside location makes it seem much larger and more spacious. The architecture hides a sleek modern airport with all of the amenities and then some, as there are several upscale hotels and luxury resorts on the bays nearby. It’s a traditional design that’s simple, functional, and recalls the idyllic seaside palapas that are strewn along the nearby beaches, which are some of the most beautiful and pristine in the world.

Airlines that fly to Huatulco

A location that often welcomes tourists and long-haul travelers all year round, you might be surprised to see some of the big names that operate directly out of this small to medium sized airport. The flight roster is considerably busier during the wintertime, with more than half the flights here operating on a seasonal schedule from other points within the continent.

• Airlines from Canada Canadians from the West Coast have discovered the wonders of Huatulco, and most of the Canadian direct flights originate in this region. You can fly direct from Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver, or Toronto on several airlines, including Air Canada, Westjet, and Sunwing.
• Airlines from Mexico. You can take regional and national, and international flights from Huatulco via several airlines, including the national carrier, Aeromexico. Virtually all flights within the country require a transfer in Mexico City.
• Airlines from the United States. There are several connections to Huatulco from US destinations, but only two American airlines are represented at HUX. United serves a convenient direct route to Houston and Sun Country flies seasonally from the Twin Cities in Minnesota.

Those that are traveling across the pond, whether it’s the Atlantic or the Pacific, will have to transfer in Mexico City or Cancun before arriving in Huatulco.

What to see and do in Huatulco.

Everyone loves Mexico. The tropical beaches, food, art, and shopping are all reasons to visit. Huatulco has all of that, along with a few unique features that you won’t found elsewhere.

• Ecotourism. Modern development arrived here rather late, at about the same time as eco-tourism, and as a result, most modern development in the Huatulco area is subjected to rigorous environmental standards. The city itself is designed to resemble a village in a jungle and there is green space everywhere, along with several natural preserves like butterfly gardens. This extends into the nearby bays if you are fishing, snorkeling, or boating.
• Medical Care. Mexico is a pleasant and inexpensive place for both medical and dental care, and Huatulco is home to both a variety of private clinics and one of the best public hospitals in the province. The IMSS (Mexican Social Security Institute) administrative offices are here as well if you’re a temporary resident or retiree who is eligible to apply for the socialized system.
