Discover Natal

With historic streetscapes, beautiful beaches, and stunning natural wonders, Natal offers visitors plenty to see and do. One of Brazil's wealthier cities, Natal is famed for its high quality of life. Whether it's taking in the architectural sights or soaking up the sun, Natal offers visitors of all sorts something to do. The city is also an ideal base for exploring the state of Rio Grande do Norte, which is famed for its scenery and natural attractions.

Flights to Natal arrive at the recently opened Natal International Airport, a clean and modern facility located 25 km from the city centre. Getting a flight to Natal is easy, especially if you connect through a larger Brazilian city. Skyscanner's Whole Month search will show you the best time of the year to fly to Natal.

Best Time to Book a Flight to Natal

Natal is known "The City of the Sun" and during the dry season between September to January you will see why: days of endless sunshine and warm, tropical temperatures. The wet season is between March and July. Temperatures are warm all year round, either in the high 20s to low 30s. However, they are moderated somewhat by the pleasant trade winds, which ensure that a stay in Natal doesn't feel uncomfortably hot. Airlines that Fly to Natal Airport

Natal Airport is a relatively small airport served by just a few airlines, primarily Brazilian ones. Currently, the airport is served by Avianca Brazil, Azul Brazilian Airlines, Gol Airlines, LATAM Brasil, and TAP Portugal. Almost all flights are to or from other Brazilian airports, although Gol Airlines offers service to Buenos Aires-Ezeiza and TAP Portugal flies to Lisbon.

What to Expect When Arriving at the Airport

Natal Airport is located 25 km from Natal itself and its location, about 50 minutes from the city, is probably its biggest drawback.  Taxis are plentiful, but a trip to the city tends to be expensive. As an alternative, minivan services offer much cheaper transportation than taxis and they travel to Ponta Negra where most of Natal's hotels are located. You may also want to consider renting a car, especially since many of Rio Grande do Norte's attractions are located outside of Natal itself.

Airport Facilities

The Natal International Airport was opened in 2014, making it one of the newest and cleanest airport terminals in all of Brazil. However, while it is certainly an attractive and well-maintained airport, it is small and lacking in food and shopping options. The small baggage claims area can also get quite crowded if more than a couple planes land at the same time. On the bright side, there is free WiFi for you to enjoy.

What to See and Do in Natal

While Natal's historic city centre may not be as impressive as those found in Recife or Salvador, it is certainly worth a stroll. Much of the city's tourism infrastructure is located in and around Ponta Negra, an upscale district with beaches, hotels, and plenty of nightlife. From Ponta Negra you can easily access the Parque das Dunas, a nature reserve of spectacular dunes overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. When looking for a hotel in Natal Skyscanner can help you find a great place to stay at an affordable rate.
