Cheap flights to Jeddah King Abdulaziz International Airport

The King Abdulaziz International Airport (JED) is Saudia Arabia's busiest airport, serving the Red Sea port city of Jeddah. The airport is also the most popular entry point to the country for Muslims heading to Mecca and Medina, making it especially busy during the Hajj pilgrimage. You can find cheap flights to Jeddah using Skyscanner's monthly search tool, which allows you to narrow down which time of the year is the cheapest to fly.

Best time to book a flight to Jeddah

If you are planning on travelling to Jeddah for the Hajj pilgrimage you will want to book your flights as early as possible, since seats will fill up quickly. If you are visiting Jeddah outside of Hajj then you should aim for the winter months. That's when temperatures are somewhat bearable and when you will have a better chance of finding a cheap flight. Summers are scorchingly hot, with temperatures regularly exceeding 40 degrees Celsius. If you want to stay on top of the cheapest flight to Jeddah, Price Alerts can help you make sure you don't miss out.

What to expect when arriving at the airport

King Abdulaziz International Airport is located 17 km north of Jeddah's city centre. The easiest way to get to Jeddah from the airport is via taxi. It is highly recommended that you negotiate a price with the taxi driver beforehand. There are also public buses that go to Jeddah, Medina, and Mecca from the airport, although these can be difficult for visitors to navigate. Renting a limousine is more expensive than a taxi, but it is also far more comfortable and reliable.

Airport facilities

Unfortunately, Kind Abdulaziz International Airport has a poor reputation when it comes to amenities and customer service. There are three terminals, the North one serves primarily international airlines, the South one serves primarily domestic ones, and the Hajj terminal is used for flights during the Hajj pilgrimage. While a light rail link is being built, for the time being the only way to get from the North to the South terminals is via taxi. Be warned that customs and immigration delays are common, with many passengers reporting delays of three hours or more. Also, entry to the airport is prohibited to those who are not passengers. In the airport itself you will find a limited selection of duty-free shops, restaurants, cafes, ATMs, and currency exchanges. Free wifi is also available but is not always reliable. Keep in mind, as well, that some areas are separated between men and women and that alcohol is not sold at the duty-free shop or elsewhere in the airport.

What to see and do in Jeddah

Jeddah is a cosmopolitan, bustling port city known for its relatively laid back lifestyle, excellent scuba diving, and maze of ancient streets. Al-Balad is the city's old town and it is where you will find unique coral houses alongside busy traditional souqs (markets). The Jeddah Corniche has wonderful views of the Red Sea and is a great place for a stroll. Jeddah is also known for some magnificent scuba diving, with corals that are in near-pristine condition. You can use Skyscanner to find a great hotel room for your stay in Saudi Arabia's commercial hub.
