‘Do Quebecers celebrate Canada Day?’ is a common question about our national holiday. Canada Day is recognized in the province of Quebec including the major cities of Montreal and Quebec City, and it’s a statutory holiday across the province. While the celebrations in Montreal aren’t necessarily as lively as the Canada Day celebrations in Ottawa just two hours away, there’s still plenty to do for a Canada Day long weekend in Montreal.

Spend your days strolling around the Montreal neighbourhoods of Le Plateau and the Mile-End, and take a break for a late lunch (European-style) and dine on a patio or terrasse at one of the many restaurants along St-Denis.

For the July 1st festivities, be sure to check out the Défilé de la Fête du Canada, the annual Canada Day Parade that takes place along Ste. Catherine Street in downtown Montreal, starting at Fort St. and ending at Place du Canada. What follows is an afternoon with plenty of entertainment for the whole family including face painting, live music, games, and a giant cake to celebrate Canada Day. End the day by heading up to Mont-Royal to grab a spot to watch the fireworks.
