Sudbury, meanwhile, is the largest city in Northern Ontario and serves as a gateway to the region's many natural attractions. While Sudbury still retains something of a reputation for being an industrial mining town, that has begun to change. The city itself is home to some great museums and has become an eco-tourism destination in recent years.

Currently, no airlines fly direct from any of Montreal's airports to Sudbury Airport. However, it is fairly easy to get from Montreal to Sudbury by connecting through either Toronto Pearson International or the Toronto Island Airport. The most commonly used airlines for flying this route are Air Canada Express, Porter Airlines, and WestJet. Additionally, you can use Pascan Aviation to get get you from Montreal to Toronto, although you would then have to switch airlines to complete your trip to Sudbury. Inside: Montreal Airports

Chances are that if you are flying out of Montreal on your way to Sudbury you will leave from Montreal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport, the city's main airport. Since flights to Sudbury connect through either Toronto-Pearson or the Toronto Island Airport, you will need to head to the domestic departures section of the terminal, where you will find the check-in counters for Air Canada, Porter, and WestJet. To reach the departure gates for domestic flights proceed through Security Checkpoint A. Although you don't need a passport when flying this route, you should have some form of government-issued I.D.

Montreal does have a secondary airport in Longueuil called the Montreal-Saint-Hubert Airport. Currently only Pascan Aviation flies out of this airport. While Pascan does not offer flights to Sudbury, it does fly to Toronto Island Airport. At Toronto Island Airport you could switch to a Porter flight to get you to Sudbury. Keep in mind that Air Canada Express and WestJet routes from Montreal to Sudbury only connect through Toronto Pearson.

Landing at Sudbury Airport

Sudbury Airport consists of one small terminal and it is easy to find your way from the gate to the exit. When you leave the airport there is a taxi stand directly outside of the exit. Keep in mind, however, that you may want to call a taxi beforehand and let them know when your flight arrives, otherwise you may be waiting for a cab to show up. Definitely the easiest way to get around Sudbury is with your own vehicle. You can rent a car at one of the three rental agency counters that are located in the arrivals hall.

Sudbury isn't exactly considered a tourist destination, but that is beginning to change. Science North is an excellent science museum and the nearby Dynamic Earth is a major earth sciences exhibition. Dynamic Earth is also where you will find the Big Nickel, the world's largest nickel and Sudbury's claim to fame. Other things to do include boating, fishing, skiing, snowmobiling, and hiking.
