Best Time to Book a Flight to Vancouver

July is by far the busiest month for travelling from Moscow to Vancouver. It is a gorgeous time of year, so it's not surprising that airfare tends to be more expensive. Airlines That Fly from Moscow to Vancouver

Lufthansa is one of the most popular airlines flying from Moscow to Vancouver, and it often has one of the cheapest rates. This airline has one and two-stop service out of the Moscow Domodedovo Airport. Other carriers flying out of Domodedovo include Aeroflot, which partners with Air Canada, Swiss Air and British Airlines. Domodedovo has one main terminal with a separate section devoted to international flights.

Airlines flying out of Moscow Sheremetyevo Airport include Aeroflot, partnering with Alaska Airlines, Cathay Pacific and KLM. International flights depart from Terminal D. The only airline flying from Moscow Vnukovo Airport is Turkish Airlines. International flights out of Vnukovo depart from Terminal A. All of their routes have two-stop service in each direction. Code sharing, where you purchase a ticket on one carrier but fly at least one leg on a partner airline, is common at all three airports.

Domodedovo Airport is about 50 kilometres from downtown Moscow, while the other two facilities are about 35 kilometres away. Taxis are available to either airport. The cost for the 35 kilometre trip runs about $60.00 CAD and a bit more to Domodedovo Airport. Legal tender in Russia is the Ruble.

What to Expect When Arriving in Vancouver

Flights from Russia arrive at the Main Terminal, Level 2 and usually in Section C or D. International baggage claim, Customs and Immigration screening checkpoints are on the same level. Russian visitors do need a Visa as well as a valid passport to enter Canada. After you clear security, you'll find rental car desks nearby. Outside the doors you'll find taxis, which charge anywhere from $21.00 CAD to $45.00 CAD, depending on the Zone you're headed for. Downtown Vancouver is about 15 kilometres away. Trans Link's Canada Line takes you from the YVR Airport Station into central Vancouver for $7.50 CAD. Parking and driving in downtown Vancouver is a challenge, particularly during workday commute hours. If you plan on heading to some of the outlying areas, such as North Vancouver or Whistler, a car can be a great option.

Airport Facilities in Vancouver

Vancouver International is almost a preview for what you can expect in one of Canada's premier cities. Brand name boutiques, cafes, fast food outlets and sundry stores are scattered throughout the airport, including the famed Tim Horton's coffee shops. ATMs and currency exchange desks are found in both pre- and post-security areas. Wi-Fi is free, with good coverage throughout the airport.

What to Do and See in Vancouver

What you'll soon discover about Vancouver is that the city skyline and its surrounding natural wonders are delightfully photogenic. Stanley Park, the city's signature open space, is a peninsula where the landscape is left much in its natural state. Wander the beaches, jog along the seawall or follow the many trails through the park and forest. Take a horse drawn carriage ride or, for a bit of educational underwater entertainment, head for the park's Vancouver Aquarium. Love to shop? Vancouver's Granville Island is a pedestrian-friendly bit of land sporting vendors and restaurants of all kinds in its famed Public Market.
