Departing from Moscow
Moscow has several domestic and four International airports. However, the following three major airports handle most of the travel needs to Montréal:
- Sheremetyevo International Airport
- Domodedovo International Airport
- Vnukovo International Airport
Sheremetyevo International Airport (SVO) is located 29 km north of central Moscow and is considered the busiest airport in Russia. It handles the needs of over 34 million passengers per year via four public passenger terminals. As a permanent hub for the Russian airline Aeroflot, SVO offers modern amenities such as WIFI, upgraded lounges, children’s and religious spaces, and a Skype booth.
Located 42 km south of Moscow, Domodedovo International Airport (DME) is the second busiest airport in the country. DME handles the needs of 30.5 million passengers annually via their single terminal building. DME is a permanent hub for Globus Airlines, Red Wings Airlines, RusLine, S7 Airlines, Ural Airlines, and VIM Airlines. Amenities are similar to those at SVO.
Vnukovo International Airport (VKO) is located 28 km south of central Moscow and is Moscow’s third largest airport. VKO handles the needs of over 15 million passengers via two terminals. It’s a hub for Gazpromavia, I-Fly, Pobeda, Rossiya, and UTair Aviation. Free WIFI is available for 15 minutes and then costs 129 rubles for 24 hours of usage. VKO has a free parent’s room, but visitors need a medical certificate obtained via the Health Centre in Terminal A to enter. A mini-cinema can also be found in Terminal A.
