Flying out of Manchester Airport
Located 14km from the Manchester city centre, Manchester Airport (MAN) is the third busiest airport in the United Kingdom. The airport consists of three passenger terminals, all of which are connected via a skybridge. Moving walkways are available in the skybridge for passengers with mobility issues.
Unfortunately, MAN does not accommodate any airlines that fly direct from Manchester to Montreal. Airlines such as Air Transat and British Airways offer flights on this route with one layover, usually in London or Toronto. International passengers should arrive at the airport no later than three hours before the scheduled departure time.
Montreal Airport Options
Montreal is home to two airports, however one of them is only for cargo flights. Montreal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport (YUL), known also as Montreal-Trudeau, is located approximately 20km from downtown Montreal. It is one of Canada's busiest airports.
A taxi ride to downtown Montreal will cost a fixed rate of $40 and a limousine ride will cost $60. There is also a bus service that runs 24/7 and has a stop at the airport. The bus takes between 45 and 60 minutes to get downtown. If you'll be travelling throughout Quebec, there are eight car rental companies on site.
Nearby in Longueuil, Quebec, is Montreal/Saint-Hubert Airport (YHU). This airport is located approximately 16km from downtown Montreal. The airport serves just one airline, Pascan Aviation. This airline flies only to Toronto and to various cities within Quebec.
YUL offers more airline and flight route options than YHU does. If you want to find the best flight deals for your trip from Manchester to Montreal, you'll want to fly into YUL.
What to Expect in Montreal
As Manchester is five hours ahead of Montreal, the time shift will likely cause you to experience some jet lag. Try to plan ahead so it doesn't affect your trip too much. The weather in the two cities is also quite different, especially in the winters. If you will be visiting Montreal between November and March, be prepared for cold temperatures and snowfall.
Prices in Manchester are generally higher than those in Montreal, so you will have more money to spend on sightseeing. Some of Montreal's best tourist spots include Mount Royal Park and the Jean-Talon Market.
Remember, unlike the rest of Canada, Quebec's only official language is French. Though many of Montreal's residents are bilingual, it can't hurt to bring along a travel dictionary if you're unfamiliar with the French language.
