The Eagle & Child is a cosy characterful pub in a quiet village just outside Kendal. It's our favourite place to stay for visits to relatives in the area.
The staff are friendly and welcoming, the rooms clean and cosy with comfortable beds and well equiped bathrooms and the breakfast excellent.
This was our third stay and it won't be our last.

Bad day at the Eagle

Been going to this place for many years and always enjoyed it. A revisit after quite a while with friends for lunch found the Eagle on a bad day. Same great drinking place full of atmosphere and a welcoming fire. Service informal, friendly and efficient. Great selection of beers. Cost and characterful rooms.
But all the food was disappointing. The fish was badly cooked and not thawed properly. The chips were soggy and tasteless. The pies were famous for the wrong reasons . In short we must have gone on a bad day although Friday lunches would tend to be busy.
After several five star reviews in the past, we departed disappointed

Proper pub

Stopped for a few points here with a group of friends and 2 dogs, lovely staff atmosphere with great decor. Great selection of beers to go at and plenty of seating.
Only a 10 minute walk from
Staveley Cottage where we stayed and plenty of walking nearby.

Lovely olde worlde pub with a good range of beer and food. Rooms were clean and had everything we needed for our stay.

We had a lovely stay at the eagle & child, very clean, staff very friendly, breakfast and evening meal both excellent quality can't fault.Pub has a lot of character.
