Have you ever needed to use your smartphone on a trip, but found that it had run out of battery? We’re here to bring you a list of the top 5 best portable chargers, so that you’ll never be battery-less again.
While you’re on a trip, your smartphone can be an essential component to having a stress-free experience. Whether it’s checking your maps, googling attractions, converting currency, or translating a language, your phone acts as an invaluable tool. However, your phone isn’t much help if it’s out of battery! Next time you’re on a trip, make sure you’re well prepared with a portable battery pack. Here is our list of the top 5 best portable chargers to check out.
Fuse Chicken Universal
Best for: A portable charger that doubles as an adapter
The Fuse Chicken Universal is our favourite pick on our list of top 5 best portable chargers, especially for travellers. This charger has a 6,700mAh charging capacity, which means that it should be able to charge an iPhone 8 about 3.5 times (make sure to check the model of your specific phone – each phone model has a different battery size). It also has both a USB-C and a USB-A port, which means you can charge both the power bank and your phone at the same time.
It’s priced at $85 USD (~114 CAD), weighs around 331g, and takes 3 hours to fully charge. It also operates as a wireless charger, meaning you can place your phone on it, cable-less, and it will charge. The best part about this charger, and the reason why it seems made for travellers, is that it also acts as a travel adapter. The top of the charger is similar to mac chargers, where the plug slides off. It can then be replaced with one of the included U.K., European, and Australian plugs.
Omnimobile
Best for: Charging multiple devices
The Omnimobile crowdfunded on Indiegogo, and has recently shipped their first batch of chargers. It offers a few different battery sizes – 3,200mAh, 9,600mAh, 12,800mAh, 20,100 mAh, and 25,600mAh. The 12,800mAh is our pick out of these options, as it offers the best size-battery ratio. The 12,800mAh is enough to fully charge one 15-inch MacBook Pro, but still weighs only 272g.
The Omnimobile is available in both white and black, is priced at $69 USD (~$92 CAD), and takes 3-4 hours to fully charge. This charger is also a wireless charging device, but includes both USB-C and USB-A ports, meaning you can charge up to three devices at once. If you want to know how much battery is left in your Omnimobile, there is a power button that will light up four LED lights based on the battery level.
PhoneSoap Go
Best for: Keeping your phone clean and germ-free
The PhoneSoap Go is one of the more niche picks on this list. During all of your adventures, your phone can catch quite a number of germs. PhoneSoap Go was designed specifically to combat this purpose, while still acting as a portable charger. This charger exists in the form of a case, which is big enough to hold most smartphones. It uses a UV light that is strong enough to kill 99.99% of germs on your phone, all without using any harmful chemicals. You can also sanitize anything else that might fit into the case, such as earbuds, keys, and more.
The battery itself is 7,000mAh, and contains a USB-C and USB-A port. You can plug your phone into the charger, put it right into the case, and press the power button to sanitize. This charger is priced at $80 USD (~$107 CAD), includes both a charging cable and carrying case, and is available in both white and indigo. The biggest con to this charger are the chunkier dimensions, which are 8.5 X 5 X 1.76 inches, but this charger made it onto our list of top 5 best portable chargers for it’s niche capability.

myCharge AdventureMini
Best charger for: Adventure and outdoor travellers
myCharge AdventureMini is the perfect charger for all outdoor and adventure travellers! It is made with a durable dirt-proof, drop-resistant, and splash-proof exterior, making it perfect for more rugged adventures. The battery is 3,350mAh, and is priced at $30 USD (~$40 CAD). It comes in the very portable size of 4.4 x 1.9 x 1.0 inches, and weighs only 90g. It also contains a built-in carabiner clip, so you can easily clip it onto your backpack while travelling.
One con with this portable charger is that it only has one USB out-port, so you can’t simultaneously charge your phone and the charger (not that you would be anyways, if you’re on an outdoor adventure). There are also larger versions of this exact charger, if 3,350mAh isn’t enough battery for you. However, the larger the charging capability, the larger the battery. The additional sizes are the plus (6,700mAh), the max (10,500mAh), and the ultra (13,400mAh).

Anker PowerCore Speed
Best for: Long battery life
On our list of the top 5 best portable chargers, the Anker PowerCore Speed is the one with the largest battery capacity. It has a capacity of 20,100mAh, and weights 373g. This means that it can charge an iPhone 8 around 11 times! It’s priced at $100 USD (~$135 CAD), and takes four hours to fully charge. While the price sounds heftier, it also comes included with a 30W power wall charger, as well as a USB-C to USB-C cable, a USB-A to micro USB cable, and a carrying pouch. For context, Apple also carries a 30W wall charger for $49 USD (~$66 CAD), if that helps justify the price tag more!
Now that you’ve read our list of the top 5 best portable chargers, you can take your pick on which one fits your preferences the best! Embark on your next adventure, all while knowing that your phone will be charged and ready for you to use.
