Modest & Comfortable in Jordaan Subdivision.

This is not a B&B. The name has been changed to Boutique.
In a house with a few rooms/ mini-apartment you will find a table, small sink/micro/mini fridge, kettle and small counter top. Room has great windows & a Juliet (French) balcony with lots of fresh air and light.
The rooms are up several stairs which we knew would be daunting due to being steep, and they were. See pic. As there is no landing you have to leave your bags outside and schlep one at a time up the stairs. Not unusual for the NL but not suitable for anyone who can’t lift their baggage or for those with mobility issues also don’t bring big luggage - it will barely fit up the stairs
The room is an array of vintage (outdated) pieces The TV is very small and has no instructions to use. Plus volumn control does not work. A larger tv mounted on the wall would give you some room for suitcases as there is very little space.
Positives:
- The neighbourhood is a lovely location close to Anne Frank House & Canal Tours.
- Located in Jordaan, a lovely quiet neighbourhood (playground and park across the road) with lots of restaurants and cafes/bars. It is not in the heart of action if you require that.
- Lots of windows
- Lots of towels
- Comfortable bed and pillows
- Good amount of plug-ins
- Grocery & Laundrymat in area
- Being able to drop off your luggage is a big plus
- Daphne the apartment representative. (Maybe owner) is responsive (speaks English), professional and pleasant. She is concerned about your comfort and satisfaction
Not so much:
- sink in bathroom is tiny and has no counter space or shelves
- Shower has low water pressure and no shelves
- No cooking other than microwave. There is a kettle and a strange coffee making machine with no instructions filling the small counter space
- Duvet on bed barely fits so you are wrestling with your partner all night to get a piece of it
- TV
- No cork screw (has to go back to store to buy a screw top wine)
- Price (higher priced than quality received)
- Wifi not stable - kicked out in the early afternoon and couldn’t be fixed until next morning. Make sure to have a sim if you need it for backup .
I recommend the Eelhouse Guesthouse to those looking for a well located suite in Jordaan. Also If you need access to a basic kitchen with dishes, micro & fridge. It is great for budget travellers if you can get a good price outside of holidays and events.

Long weekend just before coronavirus lockdown

I booked Eelhouse B&B as a change from standard business focused hotels for my wife to join me for the weekend after a conference at which I was due to be speaking. The conference was cancelled due to coronavirus but we went ahead with the long weekend anyway - and I'm glad we did!
The process for booking Eelhouse B&B was easy and communication good. We needed to agree an approx arrival time as there are only a couple of rooms in the house, so no reception etc. Daphne greeted us and took us inside, climbing to the third story up the steep, narrow wooden staircase - which is part of the deal if you want authentic. The staircase is the only 'common part' of the accommodation, no lounge or breakfast room.
The bedroom is light with windows on 2 sides, a reasonable size with large comfortable bed, a small table & 2 chairs, sink with tea & coffee making facilities and a mini fridge in which we were left some water and chocolate. There was some noise from the children's park the building overlooks, but it is locked at night and is really not a problem. The 'wet-room' bathroom is small, functional and dark with no windows - the shower was OK and partially segregated by a partition wall, though I'm not a fan of wet rooms as you're always needing to put towels down on the floor.
We were mostly unable to connect to the wifi - we were advised that this was due to be fixed, but for a long weekend it wasn't a big problem and we used some of Amsterdam's many cafés which generally do have wifi.
Breakfast was really good - delivered on a tray into the room at a pre-agreed time by Daphne. It included hard boiled eggs, croissants, cold meats, fruit, juice and yoghurts - it made a very tasty start to the day!
The final point is the location, which is really great - it's close enough to everything to feel central, a 20 minute walk to the train station and has some very good restaurants and bars within just a few minutes. But it's outside the main city centre and so has a pretty quiet and calm feel.

Delightful!

Staying in The Eelhouse was totally charming. It was a privilege to experience living in this gem of an historical Dutch house with great Dutch hospitality, and the breakfasts brought to our rooms daily were delicious too. Thank you Daphne

Absolutely Charming

I visited in early October 2019 and actually stayed in both rooms. The rooms are inviting and comfortable. The view out the window essentially hasn't changed in hundreds of years. I cannot recommend this B&B enough. The owner, Daphne is so nice and loving I felt as if I were in her home. I also want to recommend if you stay here, there is a ramen shop a few blocks away that is awesome and cheap! Thank you Daphne.

Beware

Room: Small but comfortable, lots of windows so good natural light. The bathroom is very small and there is really nowhere to put any toiletries. The room did have a faint smell of dog. The door is quite thin so you can hear people talking or going up and down the stairs outside the room. It rained one night and two windows leaked.
Breakfast: Very basic. The day before the morning that we left, at 0830, we were informed that we didn't need breakfast, we said something would be good so were provided with a supermarket muesli and yoghurt combo. One day we were provided with our breakfast for the following morning, in the fridge, as the owner was having a birthday party and couldn't manage coming up with our breakfast the next morning.
Owner / Host: Really showed very little interest in us as guests and offered no advice regarding things to see or do. She seemed to prefer to be at the little restaurant / pub just down the road, where we saw her many times. We think she has been running this B&B for quite a while and portrayed a manner of having lost interest in the business.
Value: Quite expensive for what you get.
Location: Very good, close to many things that can be walked to.
Overall: Disappointing considering the cost, breakfast poor, disinterested owner. Beware of the stairs, this is an old building the stairs are winding, narrow and steep, you need to lug your suitcase up and down stairs. Would definitely not stay here again, it gave us a bad impression of Amsterdam.
