You might not have heard of Buffalo Niagara International Airport (BUF) before, as it’s overshadowed by other metropolitan transport hubs in the same state. BUF is growing to accommodate the amount of traffic in this area, which is popular with every kind of traveller. Commuters, students, businesspeople, and tourists pass through this area throughout the year, with that number getting even higher during holiday months.

The airport currently consists of a single terminal and is considered to be medium-sized, but is undergoing renovations to expand. The new terminal will have more space outside for passengers, new baggage carousels, and more secure walkways. BUF serves the southern part of an area known as the Golden Horseshoe, a populous and busy region that includes big cities like New York and Toronto and their respective airports. The city of Toronto is actually less than 100 km away and offers ground transportation directly to this airport and other nearby destinations in New York state.

  • Private Shuttles. If you’re in Nashville for a package deal or a vacation that includes a hotel, your transportation to and from the airport might be included. This might be a private hotel shuttle, an express bus, or a limousine or taxi.

  • American Airlines is one of two airlines in BUF that have a regular schedule that doesn’t change seasonally. That’s fine as long as your destination is Charlotte, the only flight offered by this company from BUF.
  • Delta Airlines and it’s regional branch Delta Connection fly to several US cities. The flights with Delta Connection are offered throughout the year to various destination in the midwest and the American east coast.
  • Southwest Airlines was one of the first low-cost carriers to move into BUF and get a real piece of the action. American Eagle, JetBlue, and other no-frills carriers have since joined them, and they fly to points throughout the country.
  • United Airlines and low cost subsidiary United Express fly to major cities like Chicago, Washington, and Newark from Buffalo. Some of the flights to Newark are only offered seasonally.
  • Vacation Express is the airport’s single holiday-based airline and also the only airline in BUF that flies direct and nonstop flights to international destinations.
