Discover Naxos
Naxos Airport (JNX) is a small regional airport serving the Greek island of Naxos, in the Cyclades. Located about 3km from the city of Naxos near Agios Prokopios, the airport offers regular flights between Naxos and Athens (ATH).
To find the best flight deals from Canada to Naxos, try using Skyscanner's cheapest month search! It can compare flights throughout the entire year to show you the best deals possible. Usually, flights are cheaper during the shoulder season (the months before and after peak season), from April to May or September to October. The summer months of June, July, and August are more popular, which leads to higher flight and hotel prices.
Getting to Naxos Airport
JNX is a tiny airport with only one flight route. Olympic Air and Sky Express both offer flights to and from Athens (ATH), but only Sky Express offers them year-round.
To get to Naxos from Canada, you'll have to fly to Athens first. There are no international airlines offering direct flights to Athens from Canada, so to get there you'll have to route through a major European city like Amsterdam (AMS), Paris (CDG), or Frankfurt (FRA).
Canadians can visit Greece for up to 90 days without a visa, thanks to the Schengen area agreement. However, you'll still need to carry a passport that is valid for at least 3 months longer than your stay.
Naxos Airport Facilities
Naxos Airport is a basic airport with very few amenities. There is no free wi-fi and few charging stations available, so be sure to charge your devices before you leave! There is a snack bar and vending machine inside the terminal. Just outside the airport entrance, you'll find taxis lined up that can take you to Naxos city centre for around $15 CAD. If you plan on driving a rental car around the island, try booking it ahead of time with Skyscanner so it's ready for your arrival!
What to Do in Naxos
Naxos is the largest and most fertile of the Cyclades islands, with most of its income coming from agriculture rather than tourism. The main town (listed as "Hora" on maps, but typically referred to as Naxos town or Naxos city) contains most of the shops, restaurants, and sights you'll want to visit while you are on the island. The most famous landmark in Naxos is the Portara, the last remnant of an ancient temple of Apollo. Today, all that remains is a marble gate overlooking the harbour.
During the day, consider spending time in some of Naxos' most famous beaches, including Agios Prokopios (near the airport), Agia Anna, and Plakos. The island can be quite windy, which makes it perfect for adventure-seekers who want to go kite or wind surfing! There are also a number of private coves and beaches throughout the island, many of which can only be reached by boat. You can even take a snorkeling/diving trip around the island with the Bluefindivers Naxos Diving Center!
